Jessica Gunning capped off a banner career year with a well-deserved Emmy win for her work in Baby Reindeer and a semi-elegant gown courtesy of Rodarte.

Since it’s a custom piece, we have to assume that everything about it is either okay by her or something she specifically asked for. It’s a very basic design, but the silhouette flatters her and the fit is perfect. She looks comfortable and confident in it. Having said all that, the only two elements to provide any sort of visual interest are both kind of awful. Those craft store flowers bring the entire look down considerably. They look cheap and their placement looks half-assed to us. To be fair, lining the entire neckline with them would have been a terrible idea, but stopping them halfway also doesn’t look right. Any floral element should be in a much darker shade so as to coordinate better with the dress, and beaded or sequined or embellished in some sort of way to make them appear formal and luxe. The other element we don’t love is the fussy design of the sleeves. Again, we can understand why she wanted a little freedom of movement and a little coverage, but like the flower placement, this solution looks a little half-assed to us.
