If you’ve been reading us or listening to our podcast for any length of time (which, thank you), you might know that Tom is a comic book nerd and more specifically a DC comic nerd. For a bunch of reasons, he never really loved the first Joker movie, although we both thought it was well-directed and that Joaquin’s performance was award-worthy. We also both think that Gaga makes a fantastic choice for Harley Quinn; offering a different take after Margot Robbie’s defining performance. Anyway, here’s the first trailer for the followup, Joker: Folie a Deux, which was only recently announced to be a full-blown jukebox musical. Scroll past all the screencaps for our thoughts.
Honestly? We think they’re probably gonna crush it. No idea if the film is any good, but you have to admit, at least it doesn’t look or sound like the usual comic book movie slop. The entire genre has been in a rut for half a decade now. Even if this all feels a little overblown, we’re ready to see more. One thing’s for sure: this is going to be the most entertainingly pretentious promo tour in ages. Just imagine these two side-by-side at premieres; him looking like a surly hobo and her looking like an alien who went to art school. It’ll be glorious.
