Not to be essentialist about it or anything, but after a decade-and-a-half of doing red carpet commentary, you notice how different entertainment award events have different kinds of red carpets. The Oscars are all prestige-oriented haute couture, the Grammys allow for a wider range of expression, but generally there’s a lot more sparkle to them, the CMAs tend to have that yeehaw flare and sense of dazzling tackiness to them, and the VMAs are for pure clown clothes and stagewear. The Latin Grammys? That’s where you go for bold colors, lots of sparkle and sexy on a platter.

Like so. While we think it’s silly to complain about any part of this outfit being “too much,” we really do think the sandals don’t coordinate all that well with the dress. One or the other, to let them shine. Otherwise, they’re fighting with each other.

They are a beautiful couple and their outfits are stunning, but the “I put this baby in here” pose is eyeroll-inducing. What’s with the glove?
Nieves Álvarez in José Luis Díaz Megía
We realize it would be a showgirl costume without the bodysuit under it, but there’s just no way these pieces (if they are, in fact, separate pieces) should be worn together.
Paz Vega in Pedro del Hierro
It’s a little heavy looking, but she’s doing a good job of not letting it overwhelm her. The color looks spectacular on her.
Rosalía in Balenciaga
It’s a beautiful gown and there’s a certain straightforward sexiness to it. The styling is perfect for it, but the Barbie boobs are weird.
Shakira in Harris Reed
We don’t mind a little Wonder Woman action in our fashion, but that looks like it would really hurt to sit down in. Granted, these are not always considerations when picking a red carpet look, but this one’s also kind of awkward. That side cutout and neckline are terrible.
