We kinda loved Lizzo’s look for the Met Gala on first sight but we’re going to have to amend that take after some consideration. Almost every aspect of this look is well executed or well chosen except one.
The shape and style are elegant. The styling is pretty much flawless. Love the hair, the makeup, the jewelry, the gloves and the booties. They do so much to tie the look together and make it Lizzo-specific. It’s all giving Lagerfeld without being costumey about it. There’s a real sophistication here that suits her very well at this stage in her life and career. There’s just one problem. The pearl detail on a design like this needs to be flawless executed and it just… isn’t. For one, we think the element is slightly overdone, but more importantly, the application of them just doesn’t look impeccable to our eyes. On a relatively simple black dress, that flaw is magnified tremendously, especially when the pearls are this large. She did everything right for this look but the Chanel team let her down.
