Time for one of our fave Oscar traditions, darlings! Tom picks his favorite look of the Oscars and tells you why, Lorenzo does the same, and YOU get to pick the winner (or determine which of us made the more correct choice so we can lord it over the other one all weekend). We’ll be doing the men later (yes, it was worded that way deliberately), but for now, it’s time to pit two queens against each other – and for once, we’re not talking about us.
Tom’s Pick: Danai Gurira in Jason Wu
Tom’s defense: Because I knew exactly what Lorenzo was going to pick and I wanted to offer a counterpoint. This is elegant, culturally significant, classically chic and evokes one of the queens of old Hollywood style (Audrey, of course) without looking like cosplay. She is entirely herself in this look and there is no one else who could have pulled it off.
Lorenzo’s Pick: Fan Bingbing in Tony Ward Couture
Lo’s defense: Because she is THE QUEEN OF THE RED CARPET, dammit. I don’t even think this is necessarily all that chic and I could probably pick a dress closer to my own tastes if I wanted to, but in terms of impact, in terms of turning heads, in terms of being UNFORGETTABLE (which is entirely what the Oscars red carpet is for), this look delivers, top to bottom.
