Darlings, can you ever forgive us for being so late with this podcast? We swear we have a good excuse: we wanted to wait until the topics got red hot, so we could dive right into them. From Madonna’s face and what it says about her place in the culture to the disingenuous attacks from the usual scam artists and mouth breathers against queer artists Sam Smith and Kim Petras for putting on one hell of a show, to Melanie Lynskey quietly clapping back against a body-shaming idiot seeking attention, there is MUCH to unpack. We talk about why Madonna is misquided in her defense of her choices, but also why the people criticizing her are forgetting some essential things about her. We talk about why we all need to pay attention when the right wing attacks queer people for objectively harmless behavior and how these attacks are escalating. And we use the opportunity of Melanie’s clapback to unpack all of the ways The Last of Us is not only challenging the genre of the zombie apocalypse, but how it’s making casting and writing choices that challenge the assumptions of the audience as to what kind of people would thrive in that setting.
