Lupita Nyong’o in Prada at the 2022 Gotham Awards

Empress Lupita kept things rather low key for the Gotham Awards – on the dress front, that is. The jewelry front was another matter entirely.

It’s kind of hard to get a fairly basic LBD and a whole pile of diamonds wrong. The Empress is operating on the lowest possible difficulty setting this night and we feel she’s earned the respite. We like-not-love the dress. The plunge is a little too deep and we don’t like that triangle detail right at the waist. At least it doesn’t have the Prada logo on it. The jewelry is what makes this look and we have to admit to being a little torn on its deployment. While we think adding a whole bunch of diamonds to a basic look can be chic, and we think all of the pieces here are gorgeous, we’re not convinced the joker and the pendant actually work together.
