Jessica Chastain snagged a surprise SAG Award for her work in The Eyes of Tammy Faye and she showed up sporting enough eye makeup to make the late televangelist green with envy. She also wore a suit that we’re just not sure about.
Something’s not quite working for us here and we’re not entirely sure what it is. We love the suit, although we think such a conventional style of suit looks a little odd without any buttons. We think our ambivalence might just come down to coloring; as in, hers isn’t really being set off by this pale shimmer. We wonder if it might have worked a little better for her if she hadn’t gone for the Tammy Faye makeup, but she’s been committed to that for a while now.
It looks a little better onscreen, but now that we’ve walked and talked our way through this post, we think the issue is that the flat hair, heavy eye makeup and shimmery white suit don’t combine well. Zhuzh up that hair and tone down the eyeliner, we say. Better yet, keep the styling and switch this suit out for the same style in a jewel tone. We think if this had been purple or dark green, she’d have blown us away. And are we wrong to think her brow game isn’t strong enough to handle all that slap?
