Caitriona Balfe Promotes “Belfast” in Khaite

As we’ve noted before, Caitriona Balfe’s time as a model has given her a certain taste and talent for wearing styles a little on the unusual side for someone with such a straightforward mainstream career. Given her time co-headlining Outlander, the most popular romance series on television for the last near-decade you’d think she’d be way into the girly, fussy, romantic styles. Given her stretch promoting Belfast and riding a wave of Oscar buzz, you’d think she’d be sporting serious, high-fashion looks with Vogue-cover severity to them. She is doing neither of these things because that simply isn’t how your girl rolls.

Oh, sorry. Did we not prepare you enough for the scrolldown? Laudatory opening paragraph aside, we probably should’ve just started off by saying we don’t like this and set you up for the goofiness to come. We think it might work better for us if she had the jacket on in these shots, but we’re puzzled as to why she’s sporting such a tightly serious do up top. Love the earrings, but we think something with a little more volume was needed in the hair department. We’re ambivalent about the clutch on its own merits, but we have to admit it works well with this look.
