While it’s always lovely to check in on the embodiment of “HEY GIRLFRIEND” herself, Miss Reese Witherspoon and also not a bad idea to keep style tabs on up-and-comer daughter Ava Phillippe, we admit that this spotlight post is driven by a not-so-secret agenda on our parts.

First, it’s kind of interesting how Ava is the vaguely more serious dress and Reese is the one exploding with color and pattern. Not that either of these dresses are so easily pegged. Ava’s is youthful and sexy with a cutesy-prim vibe. Both the twee braids and the sexy ankle straps look great with it. Reese’s dress is extremely simple in shape and almost looks like she’s in some sort of oversized sweater, which is probably deliberate. She knows how to dress holiday family movie premiere appropriate without looking like Mrs. Claus. It’s cute and we love the red pumps with it, but we wish it had more of a shape to it.

Anyway, our agenda here: We feel the need to counter the endless succession of celebrity and style articles that insist these two are twins of each other. We know we sound like a broken record here, but that girl has her father’s face hanging off the front of her head and we just feel the need to shout this truth out into the universe to counter all the lies. We wonder if Ava’s gotten tired of the comparisons and that’s why she’s stepped so definitively away from styling herself like her mom.
