Today, Cynthia Erivo dropped her new single “The Good” from her upcoming album “Ch.1 Vs. 1” (boy, would we EVER have tried to advise her away from that goofy and forgettable title if she asked us; we had to double-check it three times because we kept forgetting it) and your relatively humble hosts got knowing looks on their faces and said “Of course.” As if the release of her single would explain why she was serving such head-turning looks this week. But the fact remains that she’d have probably served these looks on any given week because that’s just how Miss Cynthia rolls.

Is it us or are a lot of stars wearing unusually heavy and high-coverage looks for this time of year? We wonder if it has something to do with a backlog of looks from various collections fighting to get some camera time after a year of being stuck on racks; as if the houses and brands are insisting on jacquards and turtlenecks in June because they’ve got merch to move. Whatever the reason, this is cute and eye-catching but we have to admit it doesn’t really feel like her. The (highly off-season) boots give it a bit of an Erivo edge.

Ah, there she is. It just doesn’t feel like an Erivo promo jaunt without feathers and beading. She has an amazing knack for making even the most ridiculously exuberant garments look elegant and even restrained.
