Darlings, last night saw the return of another red carpet with the 2021 MTV Movie and TV Awards and unlike the Oscars, this crowd came to party, to show off, and to get a little crazy with their fashion. You better gird those loins, girls. These stars did not come to play. They came to get some attention.
Addison Rae in Christopher Esber
She’s young, so we’ll leave things there. But sweetie? When they told you you have to suffer for fashion, they meant you have to suffer for the good kind. There’s no point in being that uncomfortable so you can look that silly.
The “kicks with a suit” trend may not be over yet; especially if it morphs into something like this, which shows a slightly freshened-up take on traditional men’s suiting. Love that the footwear is Captain America-appropriate too. It’s a great look. Not feeling the blue panel of the shirt, though. It’s distracting.
Henry Golding in Dior Homme
Hmm. It’s gotta be a bad outfit if we’re looking at Henry Golding and not immediately swooning. Love the jacket, but pairing it with a white t-shirt has a distinctly Grease 2 feel about it and we don’t think the wide-legged pants and sneakers work well at all.
Can’t blame a gal for getting a little over-dressed after a year inside. She is clearly loving this look but we’re only so-so on it. The flounce is too big and the slit’s a couple of inches too high.
This is low-key chic, emphasis on the low-key. Not that we’re complaining, but if she’d asked our opinion, we’d have told her to grab a little spotlight attention on a night like this after a high-profile role like Agatha Harkness. The hair, makeup and earrings are all fabulous, though.
Lana Condor in Giorgio Armani
Another lady who opted for high glamour and again, we can’t blame anyone for wanting to get a little dressier than the MTV Awards usually calls for. She looks great. Love the earrings and the eye makeup. Girlfriend’s working one hell of a set of arches there.
Madison Bailey in Versace
YES GIRL SERVE US EVERYTHING!
This is horrible and we love it. It’s MTV! It’s 2021! Go for it, queen! Hideous skirts are hot!
Mandy Moore in Altuzarra
We’re not convinced that color’s the best one for her, but we’re absolutely certain that the proportions don’t work with that plunging neckline and tulip skirt.
Taylour Paige in Gucci
Alright, then! We can’t imagine this is an easy look to pull off or that she’d be comfortable in it, but she seems pretty pleased with herself. We can’t say we love the jumpsuit and neither the jacket nor the sandals look right with it.
Kittens, we need to brace ourselves for a summer of absolute cray on the returning red carpets. We can feel it.
Yvonne Orji in Mimi Plange
LOVELOVELOVE. We usually hate fringe, but this time, we don’t care. This is a party AND a parade in dress form. The colors look amazing and we love the neon sandals. Our only quibble is the shape of the neckline which feels overdesigned.
