The greatest actress of our time took the occasion of her her fourth Emmy win to get a little playful and a little serious, using fashion as her language of choice.

First, she did a little pre-Emmys virtual red carpet work by posing in this drop-dead Schiaparelli gown, making use of the lack of travel to wear something that might not have survived a limo ride. The color is a bold Watchmen-esque blue, the shape is exuberantly fun and shows off a killer pair of legs, and the sparkle makes it feel like she’s walking a major red carpet instead of just posing on a rooftop. Several attendees and nominees wore more than one look for the night. Those who didn’t have to show up to present an award simply posed for some pictures in whatever they would have worn on a red carpet, thereby making their stylists and friendly fashion houses happy. You won’t hear us complaining. We’ve been begging stars to do this very thing since March.
For her acceptance speech, she again turned to Schiaparelli, choosing a brilliant fuchsia suit that straddled the line between formal and casual. It looked great on camera and despite the fully beat face and done-up hair, which surely took some time, she gives off an air of ease and unfuss. Of course, the whole point was to provide a frame for the Breonna Taylor t-shirt, which allowed her to make an important statement and provide an image the audience couldn’t turn away from. Social justice crossed with chicness. That’s how you do it for an event like this one.
