Yesterday, bereft over what fate and incompetence have stolen from us, we launched the Mrs. America press tour that never happened. Stars Cate Blanchett (who plays Phyllis Schlafly) and Sarah Paulson (who plays a made-up anti-feminist with a conscience because they couldn’t find any real ones, apparently) went toe to toe on the red carpet. Today, we’re launching an imaginary photo call as Rose Byrne (Gloria Steinem) faces off against Uzo Aduba (Shirley Chisholm) in a day dress showdown for the ages!
We originally declared this to be “church clothes” and we haven’t found a reason to change our assessment. We do, however, feel the style suits her really well. She likes to get a little cray and/or a little twee with her style, but this represents a nicely streamlined simplicity that works great for her. It’s not the freshest style in the world (hence: church clothes), but it’s pretty and striking on her. The hoops were a nice touch. The shoes are a bit of a missed opportunity to add some oomph.
Miss Uzo, on the other hand, opted for something with a more autumnal, more “brunch in the city” tone. Like Rose’s look, this suits her perfectly, from shape to colors. We go back and forth on the white pumps. They go with the dress and help coordinate that one rather glaring white panel, but we think they might draw the eye too much. The hair and earrings are spectacular, though.
Two jazzy little day looks with two rather distinct vibes, each suited perfectly to its wearer! Darlings, however will you decide?
