We know that sometimes, you have to take into consideration the boldness of a look; the statement that it’s making, before you start going in and pooping all over it by making a conventional fashion critique. Some of Billy’s outfits have been drop-dead chic or just plain jaw-dropping. Some have been awkward and a little tacky. This look is neither, but it’s a prime example of an outfit that becomes something else when he wears it; something fabulous and confident and life-affirming. Something that challenges norms and defies expectations. On that level, we are duty-bound to salute it.

But if any starlet came out wearing this, we’d almost certainly call it tacky. We’re just being honest here.
