We interrupt all this Cannes Film Festival red carpet eleganza for some smart, fun street style courtesy of Miss Gabrielle, who’s got a new series to promote.

Okay, here’s the thing about all this: it’s kind of ridiculous when you take a step back and try to break it down. We’re talking shoe chains, baggy leather pants, paisley and enough big-ass ruffles to choke … some sort of large animal that would be chewing on ruffles, we guess. Our point: none of that really matters because she’s selling the hell out of it. The hair is gorgeous, the smile is large, and she’s sending off confidence in all directions. She’s feeling it, in other words. And if you feel it, you can sell it.

And now here’s the thing about all this: We don’t love the pairing of these items, but we recognize it’s on trend and has a truly modern feel to it. We think those pants are pretty great, but we have to work to accept them with that coat (which is really cute), let along those sandals (which are kinda not cute). All three of these looks are ripped straight from the runway, which give you some idea of her promo commitment here. Girlfriend’s not fooling around. She’s serving up editorial style. We don’t always love when runway looks are replicated in the real world, but we don’t think this would be nearly as interesting without the jarring juxtaposition of that top half and those pants.

This is where we get off the bus, we’re afraid. We appreciate the high-fashion feel of these looks. She could’ve done a cute dress and a pantsuit and call it a week. But we just don’t love the fussiness of this design, the floatiness of the textile and the relative low impact considering how busy it all is. Plus we don’t think the shoes go at all. But she’s trying it, we’ll give her that.
