When a Duchess wants her McQueen gown altered, it gets altered.
Cathy wore this stunner of a gown to the 2017 BAFTAs, when we called it “a stunner of a gown.” Hey, if the phrasing still works, why change it? Which makes a perfect seque to the discussion of how and why the Duchess opted to have sleeves added this time. Here she is in the way-back-when:
It had a much more formal feel the first time, helped by the up do and the diamonds, of course.
But we think we like it quite a bit more with the sleeves. It looked a little restrictive with the horizontal straps. It’s great that she recycles her high fashion and figures out ways to re-work it but now we’re wondering about the particulars here. No doubt she has access to world-class seamstresses, but we wonder if she had to send this to McQueen for the reworking. That would have to be an entirely rebuilt bodice, right?
