Don’t you worry, red-carpet-watching kittens. We’re not done with the Oscars ceremony yet. But if we don’t step up the pace on these after-party posts, we’ll all be stuck here talking about Olivia Colman’s gowns until the summer. As we did with yesterday’s coverage, Day Three of our Oscars 2019 opinionating, will bounce back and forth between the main event and the after-parties, with some pre-event stuff from the weekend thrown in and maybe even a check-in on those fabulous celebs sitting front row in Paris. There. You’re caught up on our publishing plans for the day. Now let’s get down to the whole reason you clicked:

Wow. We love this so much more than the rather generic gown she wore to the Oscars. That’s pretty much become the norm these days, we’re sorry to say. Everyone makes extremely safe choices for the ceremony and then has a little more fun with their fashion at the parties. We can understand why she might not have wanted to wear this. For one, the collar is too fussy for a closeup on her face, which would be happening throughout the night. Second, the color might not have worked well on TV. The last thing you want while you’re giving your tearful speech is people tweeting bitchy comments about why you look green on their TV. And finally, the latter-day Oscars have recast themselves as a major fashion event on par with the Met Gala or some fantasy royal court, which means this perfectly lovely formal gown would not be seen as “enough” for the occasion. If it’s not beaded to the gods and weighing at least 30 pounds, it’s not in consideration for a lot of the nominees or presenters.

Anyway, she looks fresh, confident and relaxed. The color and slightly fussy style work really well for her.
