Queen Maxima got to do some quintessentially Philadelphian activities while visiting our home town and it’s genuinely kind of jarring for us to see someone we’ve covered extensively standing at a spot not more than a ten minute walk from our home. First, the Queen and King Willem-Alexander joined PA governor Josh Shapiro and PA First Lady Lori Shapiro at Independence Hall, where they checked off several Philadelphia landmark moments that every single school child in the tri-state area has visited at least once.
IN PHILADELPHIA
The ironic thing for us: we just took our Dutch in-laws to the Liberty Bell in December. Had we known when the Dutch royals were going to be there, we might have walked down to catch a look, because we’re pretty sure most of the people around the area had no idea who they were and didn’t pay much attention to them. We like to think that Max knew we’d be nearby and decided to up her style game considerably — or at the very least, to not do the things that tend to drive us nuts, like poor color matching, wrong jewelry choices and flyaway hair. She kept the look simple and chic. Also, this happened:
It’s kind of funny how Eagles gear has an established history with the European royals. Go birds. After their Philadelphia sojourn, they steeled themselves for a visit to the White House.
At the White House
Orange is an important color in Dutch history and the Dutch royal family’s surname is van-Oranje Nassau, which is why this is one of her go-to colors. It’s a good thing she happens to look great in this shade. This is another look where she seems to have avoided all of her style pitfalls, keeping everything well coordinated and chic. Personally, we wouldn’t recommend orange jewelry with an orange dress, but royal style is so much more theme-based than regular style.
