Kittens the celebrity style pickings today are both slim and kind of dull. Taking the glass-half-full approach, that means this kind of boring and disappointing frock choice from Miss Emily makes the perfect thing to argue about:
Okay, first? Can we just say? We are EXTREMELY disappointed with her. We’re a month out from the Mary Poppins Returns premiere and we assumed that this would be a period of endless promotional appearances while modeling a stunning array of sweetly precious, Disney-friendly couture. This ain’t it.
But fine. Let’s be fair about this and take this look on its own terms rather than what we think she should be doing to promote herself. We still don’t love it. There are so many great, rich colors to choose from in the Resort and Fall collections right now. There’s certainly nothing wrong with wearing a floaty white dress this time of year, but it doesn’t feel like the best use of your promo time. To be more specific in our critiques, we don’t like the combination of pleating and polka dots, which seems designed to take a classic print and render it vaguely and randomly. Can’t say we love the sleeves much either, but it’s the hem that truly turns us against this one. We don’t love handkerchief hems even when they’re subtle. This one is the opposite of subtle. And it looks like an accident waiting to happen. We hope she didn’t have to climb any stairs wearing this.
Yes, we’re cranky. We wanted Poppins drag by now. This is why it’s best if you guys make the call on this one.
