Two exciting new developments in the Duchess Megs Royal Tour saga occured in the brief time since last we spoke, darlings. First, the Duchess exercised her royal right to put her feet up and just be the hell pregnant for a day while her hubs went out and earned his keep. Second, we are clearly in the stripes portion of the tour. Part of the reason we urge the lady to be a bit more adventurous in her style choices is because it’s very clear that she puts quite a bit of thought into her style, deliberately cycling through specific colors or elements over and over again before moving onto another one. That Martin Grant dress she wore on the beach the other day was simply the opening salvo in the next part of her wardrobe plan: The Stripes Initiative.
This being Megs, said stripes are extremely subtle, colorless, and carried through to her purse in order to heighten the motif. It’s a cute look. We’re not huge fans of turtlenecks and we, as always, wish she wasn’t so averse to color, but it’s stylish and photographs well.
All of the attention has been focused on her shockingly modern reveal that she has upper thighs, but then again, it’s one of the few interesting things about this dress. It’s pretty enough, but it’s not at all photogenic and honestly comes off a bit too casual. It helps that she looks great in it and that the sandals make it instantly more stylish, but you could switch them out for sneakers and add a canvas tote bag and she’d be good for Sunday brunch and errands. As for the slit, we’re not at all scandalized by it and tend to think ninety percent of royal fashion protocol is unnecessary, but it does seem like a rookie mistake. The potential for disaster spikes every time there’s a slight breeze.
Still, despite the fact these latest iterations are colorless and nearly indistinguishable from other items she recently wore (again: one gets the sense the repetition is deliberate, but we honestly don’t see the point), it’s at least nice to see a little pattern and sass in her style.
