Go, Robot Girl. This is your dress. No one else has that icy, robotic quality to make it work like you do.
Almost all A-list celebrities are stand-ins for something in people’s lives. It’s why they become A-list celebrities in the first place; because they appeal to or remind ourselves of some quality or persona that we relate or respond to. Despite her magazine-cover beauty, we think the great appeal of Kristen, to those she appeals to, is that she’s the Weird Girl. She’s the celebrity stand-in for sullen, awkward, quiet girls. Which isn’t to say that her fans are all weird, just that she appeals to that side of people that wonders if they’re weird or off-kilter or sometimes feel they are. She’s Ally Sheedy in The Breakfast Club, except gorgeous, internationally famous and with a talent for wearing couture. She’s tailor-made to be a fantasy avatar.
In terms of style, it takes a weird girl to make a weird dress work, which is why this looks so great on her. And it’s why she always looks better the further away from conventional she gets. Our only issue is with the shoe. She keeps making these sort of uninspired choices in footwear lately.
