Jennifer Garner in Valentino at the “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” Premiere

There’s nothing at all with the classic, workmanlike Little Black Dress. And there’s nothing wrong with putting on a “Gets the job done without any fuss” dress that you can rely on. For the average lady, that is.

For the lady who’s standing on the red carpet for her movie premiere, we have higher standards.

This is the very definition of “fine.” And by that we mean the “acceptable or satisfactory” definition of the word, not the “superior in quality or appearance” one. It’s fine. It’s just fine. The dress could’ve been the start of a more interesting look with some aggressive styling, but Miss Jennifer didn’t want to appear interesting tonight, it seems. She’s sporting some fine (“superior in quality or appearance”) jewelry, but aside from that, the styling is almost non-existent. Parent-Teacher Night hair, a boring clutch and a pair of generic shoes. Nothing’s bad, but everything seems chosen to be as inoffensive as possible. It’s a pretty style-light look, to be frank. We’re not asking for anything radical here. Just blow out the hair, put on a pair of silver shoes and grab a hot pink envelope clutch. Done.
