Elizabeth Olsen in The Row at Comic-Con 2014: “The Avengers” Panel

Posted on July 28, 2014

We’ve never been more reluctant to inform a starlet that her dress is simply too tight and she needed to go up a size.

For this is an Olsen sister, whose family crest bears the motto “There’s no such thing as a dress too large” in latin. Like her creepy older sisters, Elizabeth has a tendency to bury herself in oversized demure outfits that tend to age her up considerably. While we’re intrigued by this sudden turn toward sexy, and prone to praising her for knowing that a roomful of Marvel comics fanboys is the perfect time to break out a too-tight dress, we have a fairly strict rule when it comes to leather dresses: If we can see your belly button through it, it’s too damn tight.

What a drab color too. She needs a pop of color somewhere imo.

      • Leah Elzinga

bright, almost neon pink shoes? given the venue, I think it could work.

        • Thomas

Yes, I think those would work!

    • julesj

And if you are wearing a long sleeve leather dress at the end of July, it’s too damn hot!

      • demidaemon

I don’t want to imagine what it was like when she finally peeled this thing off. ICK.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I hope she dusted it well with talc before she put it on!

        • MartyBellerMask

After spending the day in a convention center with 1,000s of sweaty boys in costumes? I’m getting hives just thinking about it.

    • http://PODOMATIC.COM/ERNIESOMERS ERNIE

THAT WAS THE AVENGERS PANEL, NOT ANT-MAN

    • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

And what an ugly color, too.

      • Thomas

        Jinx!

        • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

Great minds! You owe me a Coke, if I can ever find one with my name on it. -.-

          • Thomas

You mean you owe me a Coke, since I posted first lol But yes, great minds think alike!

    • elemspbee

ya. North of the neck, she looks terrific. The tightness of that dress though, bellybutton mold, ruins it all.

    • hughman

      Fifty Shades of Nay.

      • DebbieLovesShoes

        Made me laugh, AGAIN!

There is nothing about this that is good except for her face, jewelry, and manicure. Of all places this is the one to be kooky and cool, which I feel like she’s capable of being. This is Eeyore trying to be sexy. It’s too sad to work.

    • Latin Buddy

Damn, her sisters must hate her (The Row is THEIR line, right?)

      • Thomas

Yes, it is their line and it’s a rather cheap looking leather dress, isn’t it?

        • demidaemon

I was surprised it came from their line as well, because it actually shows what body parts look like. It’s confusing.

        • Anna

I’ve seen better looking pleather jackets at Target.

          • ballerinawithagun

My first thought was pleather also.

    • AlisonHendryx

I think she just needs some foundational garments? I love the color, so superhero. a necklace or cuff with some color would have been nice.

      • teensmom99

It’s more than foundation garments. Her breasts look smashed–never a great look but it is what most leather tops do to women. And yet, people persist in trying a leather dress.

    • alyce1213

Leather dresses in general should be banned from the red carpet. The lights are brutal. Also, waaay tight.

    • jonnyf8

I think it’s pretty interesting and appropriate for the venue and yeah maybe it is a little tight but I can’t be too body-critical of the Olson’s ever since years ago when I overheard someone refer to Ashley as “the fat one”. Those girls don’t have issues by accident. And yeah, I agree some spanx would have probably taken care of the fit issue. Everyone knows that an Olson girl doesn’t really eat.

      • teensmom99

It is not body critical to say that the fit is wrong. And we BKs are about nothing if not fit.

    • CMCH

If we can see your belly button through ANY dress, regardless of fabric, it’s too damn tight.

    • Capt. Renault

(To repeat my joke, because I’m not nearly done with it yet) I think this Olsen mom looks pretty good!

    • teensmom99

If she does go up a size, this will need a lot of tailoring. I say find something else, dear.

    • kimmeister

The shoes don’t look chic and that’s not her eyeliner either. I’m aghast that it’s even possible for a navel to be seen through a leather barrier.

    • bassfemme

There are certain fabrics that cause a vortex around the belly button. That, when coupled with puckering around the hips makes for a disastrous look. What’s on her right hand? Bats?

    • MilaXX

Seeing an Olsen sister in a too tight anything is darn near kin to seeing a unicorn

      • demidaemon

Truth be told, I’d rather see the unicorn.

    • Pound of Salt

It’s amazing how much she looks like her sisters. I think the color is really striking on her.

      • understateddiva

I kinda like that gray too – makes her eyes stand out.

      • KES4K

        * snark alert* they must all use the same plastic surgeon.

    • LadyLuck777

Isn’t she a younger sister? Why does she look like a Real Housewife here?

    • Kelly

I’m not sure even a size up would have helped. The dress is wrinkled and lumpy on the model, too. People just aren’t meant to be upholstered in naugahyde, not even the insansely-expensive, real-leather sort, and that’s all there is to it.

      • Adrianna Grężak

I came across The Row clothing when I worked in a high-end consignment shop in NYC. The clothes are instantly recognizable as The Row (meaning, super oversized and generally shapeless) but the pieces are manufactured in the worst “fabrics” possible! One dress felt like a shower curtain.

    • MilaXX

It’s from her sister’s line, maybe it’s too small for her because it’s sized for them.

    • Kathie

She is so pretty but this dress is a no. Too drab

    • Imasewsure

Again not bad for a woman who just celebrated her 50th birthday! Still props for leather at Fan Boy Central…and she didn’t go for the nude strappy sandals which is must appreciated at TLo Central anyway

    • ktr33

I feel sweaty and claustrophobic just looking at her. Get me outta thing thing! Remember when Ross couldn’t get those leather pants off? That’s how imagining the evening goes for Olsen the Younger.

    • Kirstin McAulay

The fit isn’t great on the model so I call this one a back to the drawing board dress… Looks like she’ll look FAB as the Scarlet Witch though!

      • understateddiva

exactly, it’s not so much the fit as the cut – it clings in oddest places.

    • evave2

I don’t like it on the model either. So I don’t get it at all.

    • Shawn EH

Plus she should be going for red right now, c’mon Elizabeth!

    • Raymond Dnomyar

god i’d sweat so bad in that

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

What’s the dress equivalent of stankboot? I don’t care how much you botox your armpits, this dress will make you sweat.

On the other hand, it might be part of her regimen for whatever role she is in next – the equivalent of wrapping yourself in clingfilm and sitting in a sauna.

    • TerryMH

      Ewww.

    • PeggyOC

I think the cut of the dress is also a problem. If you went up a size it would just look boxy on her. It’s a boxy cut.

    • ksb43

I like that she isn’t super thin. She looks like a girl who likes to eat. Brava, Lizzy! Don’t ever change!

    • Adrianna Grężak

I came across some clothing from The Row when I worked in a high-end consignment shop in NYC. 1. The clothes are HUGE! Size 0 is more like Size 12. 2. Super expensive polyester. I’m surprised the Olsen twins even designed something this tight.

    • RescueMe23

Big ole bowl of oatmeal…drab dress, drab makeup.

    • MartyBellerMask

OR– crazy thought– wear a different dress altogether. IT’S JULY.

    • alliekat9090

She just never seems to get it right, does she? She is a lovely girl and there are so many lovely things she could wear. Why does she always show up looking cheap? I would rather see her dress homeless chic like her sisters than wear ugly ill fitting stuff like this. Im still having nightmares about the figure skating schmata she wore to the Met Ball. I like her. I want her to look better.

    • gitchygitchymama

so um this gray lambskin casing is designer , huh?

    • mrspotts66

so THAT’S what she looks like when she smiles.
not diggin’ the dress at all.

    • Dagney

      um, no. it’s Amish dominatrix.
