The assignment was understood and the results were spectacular. We’ve been a little rough on the style team of Zendaya and her star stylist Law Roach lately, because of their relentless tennis drag on the Challengers press tour, but we’re happy to report they took her Met Gala co-hosting duties seriously and unveiled two of the best looks of the night.

This is a pure stunner of a look. It’s a Galliano creation for Maison Margiela, based on his own designs for Dior in 1999. It’s dramatic, theatrical, and kind of adheres to the night’s themes surrounding gardens and lost time without being too literal about it. We LOVE the silent film star makeup, which really lends it a sense of mystery and agedness. But wait! There’s more!

Because of course there’s more. She wasn’t going to let J Lo steal a bit of her thunder. While we love this one a little less because it hits the garden theme a little bit harder and more literally, we love how it lightly evokes Caribbean women’s fashion. There’s a sense of regalness and power in this one. We don’t love how colorless the dress is, but the textiles look rich and luxurious. They nailed the brief.
