IN or OUT: Li Bingbing in Elie Saab Couture at the “Transformers” Berlin Premiere

Posted on June 30, 2014

While we love Miss Bingbing for the sheer joyous WTFery she brings to the red carpet (Sheer-Panted Jumpsuit. June 2014. We Will Never Forget. *crying eagle*), fear we may have been a little hard on her by using the term “tacky-ass” to describe her style.

For instance, this is perfectly lovely:

But it bores the hell out of us. For one, white lace does absolutely nothing for her. For another, we may have to lie down for a while after seeing those shoes. Those GIGANTIC TAN HOOF SHOES. They’re hiddy.

But maybe we’re still being hard. Maybe all y’all love this turn toward Centaur Bride Chic.

And thus, a whole bunch of furries just came here via the google.

Bitter Kittens make the call:

IN! I’m just here for the centaur babes! Also, this looks pretty on her.

OUT! A deadly combination of boring and ugly.

The Kittens Who Are Bitter couldn’t bring themselves to love Kristin Chenoweth’s outdoor lingerie, voting it O to the UT.

Those shoes are going to give me nightmares.

This is an in, lowercase i. It’s perfectly lovely, but boring, but looks good on her, but looks bridal. It fits far better than our last In or Out post. I almost prefer her WTFuckery to be honest!

      • kirkyo

The dress translates a bit better on the runway with ethereal blue lighting than standing inside a metallic dinosaur jaw on fire.

It does go into bridal territory and with those shoes it looks tacky and cheap, which the dress certainly isn’t.

      • FuhUgh

        out for the shoes alone

    • LadyCelia

Well the folks who pony play won’t have to around modifying stripper shoes anymore to create hooves.

      • smayper

        bwa hahahaha!!

    • NMMagpie

That peplum just ages the whole look. The shoes… I won’t go there.

      • Imasewsure

It looks like something Esther Williams would wear over her bathing suit in a cheesy 40’s extravaganza (but not in a good way)

      • Boulderista

My first thought was that it would look lovely as a First Lady look for someone’s wife at the G8 summit (not Shelly O) … someone more likely to be within a more appropriate age group for this dress. And the color does nothing for her either, this is an Out for me.

    • EttaKit

I think you’re still safe with tacky. Hoof shoes + white lace + one-shoulder + peplum + crotch-high slit = tacky in my book. It could be lovely, but it is just too much stuff on one body.

      • Gatto Nero

I should have read down before commenting. Yes.

    • DuBey2

Out. The stained-looking lace doesn’t even rate a ‘meh’ because of the fit. And then. the. hiddy. shoes.

      • Rhonda Shore

Yes, OUT because of that terrible fit, especially from the side. *shudders*

    • hughman

When she doesn’t smile, she has that same testy impatient look the hostess gives me when I take 20 minutes to decide between steamed or pan fried dumplings.

      • Jarethee

Steamed! Always go with steamed! They taste better and there’s less regret!

        • Sophie

I disagree, sometimes pan fried dumplings are the only thing that can put me in a good mood. (They’re less healthy, though.) It ll depends on the place where you get them.

          • hughman

Well they’re dumplings, not “Sophie’s Choice” so regret is never really on the menu.

            • formerlyAnon

              Never look back.

      • Alicia

        Both – why choose?

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Fried all the way. Now I’m hungry. :)

    • random_poster

OUT. Those shoes do not go with that gown, and the gown just hangs on her.

    • Anna

Out! Looks like Bingbing needs an appointment with her farrier. Sweet jesus…

      • barbarienne

+1 for use of the word “farrier.”

        • smayper

          Absolutely. I am applauding here.

        • Glam Dixie

Whenever I use the word in conversation, non horsey people have no clue what it means and my auto-correct always tries to change it to furrier.

        • Judih1

I had to look up the meaning for the word “farrier” and you are absolutely right. So an IN for you and a BIG OLE OUT for her. Those hoof feet do not go with anything, but especially that dress.

      • JasmineAM

Don’t know if I should be ashamed to admit I learned that word from Archer.

      • Glam Dixie

My farrier would whisk those hooves off and replace them with the lovely shoes the model is wearing but the dress would still be ugly.

    • Constant Reader

OUT. That dress is pure Alexis Colby Carrington Gets Married Again (although I don’t think even Joan Collins could carry off that greige color) and the shoes take me to another and more horrible world.

    • Shawn EH

In! Yes, she’s making it work, shoes and all. Plus it is neither chartreuse, plastic or see-through.

    • schadenfreudelicious

Those hooves need to be sent out to pasture…OUT

    • butterflysunita

IN, though the dress looks like a bedspread and the shoes are hideous. Mainly because I still think she looks fabulous. Though I might be voting her IN just because I love that she’s surrounded by daggers.

    • alyce1213

Barely in on the dress, only because it is kind of pretty and not tacky ass. An improvement.
China has not gotten the memo that hoof shoes are over.

    • barbarienne

If those shoes were any other color, I would love them. (Not with that dress, but I kind of like the wonky physics of them.)

The dress is a big ol’ nothing on her. Aside from the color (or rather lack of color) being blah, it isn’t accessorized well. Not that such a busy dress should be accessorized a lot, but exchange the white earrings and belt for pale gold–it would have a bit more something.

Her tacky-ass outfits may be eyebrow-raising, but at least they’re interesting. This yawn gets a lowercase “out” from me.

      • kimmeister

Meanwhile, I say OUT solely because of the wonky physics of those shoes. I can’t imagine what one looks like walking in those. Sort of a short, geisha shuffle?

    • AnaRoW

Out. That dress is wearing her. I actually like the sheer jumpsuit more than this or at least I would if that jumpsuit had been a dress.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

Lower case out; more like a “Leave, please”.

    • Sobaika

The shoe is an abomination, but this offering is still much better than anything else we’ve seen her in. So… reluctant In?

    • PastryGoddess

I much prefer tacky ass Ms Li to to snooze of a look.

I am pointedly not looking at her feet

    • SuzyQuzey

OUT. That dress is mother of the bride who got into a huge drunken fight with her sister, leading to one of the sleeves being ripped off.

I can’t even discuss those “shoes.”

      • kimmeister

Clearly, the heels got snapped off after the one sleeve got ripped off.

    • Gatto Nero

No. The asymmetric sleeve thing, wonky peplum, thigh-high slit and hoof shoes are not doing it for me.

    • BobStPaul

Out. Boring, indeed, and even a bit matronly.

    • Kbear

The second to last picture is when she finally looked into the mirror and thought “MEH”. She can do so much better – this is the meh-ist “meh” I’ve seen in a while. So, it gets a gentle “out”. The shoes I will not even discuss. OMG.

    • decormaven

Out. Lace for a Transformers movie premiere? Wouldn’t have been my call. Maybe the shoes shapeshift into a giant roadster; I hope they turn into anything other than the hiddy hooves shown here.

      • Imasewsure

Amen…. thinking of putty hooves as shape-shifting roadsters may be the only way to get through this trend. Thank you for that!

    • conniemd

Out. I love Elie Saab for his ability to make women look beautiful, but of all the gorgeous dresses he makes that she could have picked, this is a gigantic fail.

    • Thomas

Out. The shoes are too tacky.

    • Mothra

Out. Shoes are scary and I think the fit is terrible on her. It actually looks better on the model. She also looks a little posture imperfect in the close up.

    • MilaXX

OUT! A deadly combination of boring and ugly, and I do mean B.O.R.I.N.G.

    • another_laura

Out, for reasons perfectly well stated by T Lo.

    • lunchcoma

It’s really not that lovely. It’s frumpy. It’s lace. It’s not a color. It comes with an ugly peplum. She’s wearing it with shoes that are both nude and hoofy. The only reason it seems acceptable is in comparison with her other looks. OUT.

    • FibonacciSequins

OUT. Come on. Her putty shoes don’t have heels and her dress looks like a David’s Bridal reject.

    • Tracy_Flick

OUT. It looks like a Nancy Reagan dress mated with a shower curtain, in Narnia. And I sincerely hope that doesn’t bring you any google traffic.

    • Sarah

The shoeses…wtf. I mean, they’re heel-free, no? So we’re supposed to balance on shoes that are super high, and now without even a stilt to prop us up??? NO on the shoes alone.

      • Grumpy Girl

Thank you! I was looking, and looking, and feeling more and more confuseder about how they work. How does she stay upright? I am at a loss.

I love my high heels, and will wear them when others might not, but geez, those things are the stuff of nightmares. I would giver her a lowercase “in” otherwise, for being boring but ok.

      • marlie

I just noticed that they don’t have a heel. How do they work??? Is she standing on tippy-toes the whole time?? That’s just weird.

    • SamE

Out, for the shoes alone. The shoes the model has on are ugly, but they cannot touch the pure fugly that Ms BingBing is wearing. Plus those things have to be torture to wear. BTW the dress is all wrong for the occasion

    • marlie

It’s an “in” for Li Bingbing!! I love everything from the ankles up. Considering the assery she’s been wearing, I welcome something that is just pretty. Plus, the dress is more than just white lace to me; there are other elements that help to make it interesting.

But those shoes hurt my soul.

    • Yoshio

OUT – she looks like she ran through her grandmother’s closet and snagged a dress at random. The shoes, well there are literally no words…

    • crash1212

O.U.T. – Out – on every level – especially those awful shoes.

    • demidaemon

I think her expression says it all. She’s not feeling it and neither am I. OUT.

    • Judy_S

      “Centaur Bride Chic.” Yes. OUT.

    • KendraMR

OUT. I so wanted to like this, but the monstrosity of those hoof shoes ruined it for me.

    • nannypoo

This is every bit as bad as those sheer panel things she’s been wearing, just in a different way. I hate it and she looks like she does too.

    • Kelly

Out. Still tacky-ass. With hoof shoes. Silly putty hoof shoes, no less.

    • bluefish

In. This shoes we just saw on Kristen Chenoweth, did we not? So will give both a pass. It’s a pretty dress and she looks lovely. The earrings — so nice. I like that the slit is really a wrap around peek a boo and because I don’t hate lace it works for me. One of those that probably looked fab in the flesh.

    • Bert Keeter

First and foremost it is not fitting her well…top is huge on her…. and Gloria Guinness wants her hooves back…

      • formerlyAnon

Points for Gloria Guinness reference – though I don’t remember photos of her in shoes this awful, ever.

        • Bert Keeter

My BAD…I meant Daphne Guiness. Gloria was sublime….

          • formerlyAnon

Whew! The universe makes sense again . . .

    • GeoDiva

Out: I just can’t with those shoes!

    • E. D.

OUT due to the shoes. Daaaaaaaaamn.

    • Mona_Visa

Toss the dress into the flames, feed the shoes to the dinosaur. OUT.

    • Imasewsure

She’s changed designers now for the new continent but this is also O to the U to the T. Not crazy ugly like the Asian swing of her pole dance but still tacky and those shoes are AWFUL

    • Meri

If it weren’t for the shoes, I’d give this one to Lesser Bingbing, but the shoes are there, so Out it is.

    • The Dose of Reality

No outfit with those should could ever be in….O.U.T!!! *shiver*

    • annla

In. I hate the horse shoes in general, but these I (oddly) don’t mind. The rest is fine.

    • Gloriana Reginata

Out, if only for those horrendous shoes that go so badly with that froufrou dress.

      • marlie

Li’s shoe game is aw bad as – or maybe even worse than – Lupita’s. So far, all of the shoes she’s worn are these cheap-looking stripper platforms. They’re hiddy, AND they never go with what she’s wearing.

    • unbornfawn

Those hoofs are horrible. The dress is coming off mother of the bride, in several of the pictures she doesn’t look happy or confident. OUT.

    • Boobs Radley

      All I see is pageant.

    • LMGordon

      OMG this ages her. OUT

    • sarah

There are so many shoes she could have worn. And she wore those. OUT.

    • PinkyK

Out! She looks like a very sad bride in a rented dress.

    • TinyDynamo

The mother of the bride is on the prowl! OUT.

    • quitasarah

Out! She looks like she has notions-arm, a brand new disease caught in fitting rooms of high fashion houses & stylists.

    • Jangle57

The dress is very pretty but that white does nothing for her with her skin tone (my choice would be navy). And the shoes, OMG, is there anyone who looks at them and doesn’t think horse hooves? I could forgive the dress but I can’t forgive those shoes – OUT

    • Sophie

Is it me or does she look older in this serious outfit than in the previous crazy ones? Or is it because she is tired and is having less fun? I hadn’t noticed the hooves didn’t have a heel, but it’s all I can see now. Out. (But I want her earrings.)

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Out. A white lace dress should not look this heavy, I really hate the one sleeve construction and the shoes of course. But her head is pretty and I covet those earrings.

    • MaggieMae

OUT. Awful color. Cannot speak of the shoes.

    • boweryboy

She’s always been impeccable from the neck up and her sheer sartorial choices have made a new fan out of me. I even sorta kinda like the shoes with this look. Plus it’s a refreshingly simple look compared to the past three.

    • carolie_king

Giving her an OUT because I know she’s capable of so much better. Is that unfair?

    • BLauDGaspode

I can find no redeeming qualities other than “it’s not so bad”. Who wants to be not so bad on a red carpet?? No, this is out.

Those shoes need to go to pasture.

    • OffToSeeHim

I think my grandmother wore this to her third wedding, in light blue.

    • sienna elm

      Out, out, out!

    • quiltrx

an extremely weak, whispered ‘in’, IF AND ONLY IF she takes off those hiddy shoes.
It’s not the most exciting thing in the world, but the front isn’t sheer so I’ll freakin take it!

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Another example of me being relieved simply because Li is not wearing another goofy sheer bottom.

    • saintebeuve

The dress looks like it’s moulting.

      • Laura Livingston

And melting. All over her hooves.

    • CatLady

Going with IN. The dress needs to lose a design element or two and the shoes are weird and ugly, but she still looks gorgeous.

    • NurseEllen

OUT. Not even the slit can save this one. And the shoes…..dear God in heaven, the shoes……

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

OUT. No. Boring, tacky, ugly. Women’s feet are not hooves. No.

    • ankali

OUT. The shoes alone would be enough, but the dress just doesn’t do much for me. Or her.

    • elemspbee

      OUT. B-word.

    • altalinda

    • Michael_Jones

OUT. (Based on the shoes alone. Who dreamt those things up?)

    • trisker

in. I think the hooves go with the iron dino teeth in the background.

    • poorellensmith

OUT. The dress looks too heavy on her and those shoes clearly came from their own circle of hell.

      Her head looks okay, though.

    • In_Stitches

I can’t hem the dress? Stylist-minion, fetch me my stilts!

    • MandyM

Out. The only reason the dress could possibly be a yes is that it is better than the horrible frocks she’s been wearing lately, not because it is actually good. Besides the shoes are unforgivable.

    • LJCdoc

Out, but only because I’m going to have nightmares about those shoes for weeks. I actually like the dress.

    • Alexis Wenceslao

    • livesarah

NO. First, the shoes make it an automatic out. Second, while the dress seems at first to have that frilly, dainty quality that some Asian starlets play up so well, something about it just reads ‘shroud’ to me. Not working.

    • veleri

      OUT. I’m bored.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

      Nope, out.

    • MannahattaMamma

OUT because those shoes are totally giving me the heebiejeebies. Ghastly.

    • Alicia

      OUT- no encouragement for shooves.

    • PeggyOC

      Out for the shoes alone.

    • Innuendo

OUT! The dress looks like an old bridal gown that someone ripped up the leg. The shoes, I just don’t understand. Do they not have heels? How do you even walk in them? The color is terrible with that dress.

    • V No Privacy

She doesn’t look nearly as exuberant as when she’s wearing her usual WTFery. She knows.

    • mjude

      OUT….(that hurt a bit)

    • carnush

The impossibly ugly shoes (ARE they shoes?) tip this to OUT.

    • Lilithcat

Oh, dear god, those shoes alone make this an OUT.

      • ecallaw1977

        Total scroll-down needle scratch.

    • Martha Anderson

from the look on her face the dress looks like it bores the hell out of her as well

    • Jenna Marie

It’s in. She deserves praise for this, considering her history.

    • Tami from Seattle

Do those shoes not have a heel? Why do shoe designers hate women so much?

    • Sunshine16

Just about laughed my coffee out of my nose at work here boys, thanks for the Gigantic Tan Hoof Shoes comment! Out on hoof shoes & dingy lace color!

    • Not applicable

OUT. Raided Nancy Reagan’s closet (granted, she’s likely the only person tiny enough to fit into Nancy’s clothes…)

    • mayanempire

Those are the most fug shoes I think I’ve ever seen.

    • Beardslee

      Out. No.

    • LibKat

Out. The color does nothing for her. The bodice looks like it needs to be altered to fit her, but that may just be the weight of all the frou-frou. The hooves will cause nightmares in all who see them.

    • formerlyAnon

Out. The peplum is overly voluminous and the slit is so high as to seem completely incongruous with the “matronly AND glam bride” vibe.

Indeed, the more I look at it, the more intensely OUT it becomes.

    • Carleenml

“You’re too short to be a storm trooper.” I’m having a Lea Michelle deja vous.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Out. She’s no Fan Bing Bing.

    • lalahartma

    • holla

out. If it wasn’t ALL white lace it might work better, and the shooves seem too heavy for the lace look.

    • evave2

Gigantic tan hoof shoes. Thank you, T/L. Says is all for me.

I think the feathery stuff on the right arm just makes the outfit too off. I don’t mind the white lace for the rest of the dress. I sort of dig the high left slit. BUT then I see Gigantic Tan Hoof Shoes.

      So out.

    • AndieJay

In. As long as I don’t have to love it in order to choose In. It’s….fine.

    • Deborah Lipp

There’s not much to this outfit, so it lives or dies by the shoes, and the shoes ARE EATING MY SOUL.

      (That’s an Out.)

    • Synnamin

Out. Those shoes are an abomination onto man.

    • frannyprof

OUT. You’re bored, I’m bored, she’s bored, we’re all bored.

    • anyalama

OUT. Those shoes make me uncomfortable. Not because they look uncomfortable (I’m sure they are), but because they’re so strangely shaped and in that horrible color. They look like some bizarre medical device.

    • ThaliaMenninger

OUUUUUUUUUUUT. Sorry. The hooves made me feel moo-ey.

    • LadyVimes

But…how does she walk? There are no heels?

    • lilibetp

I thought she looked exquisite until I got down to the shoes.

    • Lori

OUT. I think the fact that she wore those hooves with Eli Saab couture means that TLo has no reason to apologize for calling her tacky ass.

    • Janet B

Horrible shoes, not her non-color, matronly, and matrimonial.

    • Fuchsiaforever

    • Fuchsiaforever

Jesus take the wheel once and for all!!!

    • Anplica Fiore

Out, & by the look on her face, she knows it!

    • cheekypinky

I would hate the shoes more if they were boring-ass Silly Putty Pumps. At least the chopine has some style to it.

    • Mousentrude

The ‘antique’ colour and fluffy flowers make it look as though it’s been rolled up under the bed for a couple of years. Out.

    • Pterodactyl111

      IN. I like the shoes.

    • Laura Renee

Lololol omg, you guys, those last two paragraphs before the call to vote.

    • crashtestbonnie

I worked a small press booth at SDCC for more years than I care to admit to publicly and honestly? Never thought to find the term “furries” this far… East, shall we say. Way to keep it real, boys.
