Johnny Depp at the “Transcendence” Los Angeles Premiere

Posted on April 11, 2014

When it comes to male stars, it’s a tossup as to whether we give the most grief to Robert Downey, Jr. or Johnny Depp. Lately, Depp has been disappointing us on an epic scale. That last outfit actually made us angry.

But our hearts are full of love this morning.

We still don’t like his personal style. We can’t stand those shoes at all and we hate the crap he’s always got dangling off his neck, especially if he insists on unbuttoning 3 shirt buttons and sporting sunglasses on the red carpet. It all comes off a little sleazy. But he didn’t put on 40 rings or tie a scarf around his wrist or wear some sort of goofy-ass hat or an outfit so retro it looks like it came from a costume shop, so this is nothing but a huge improvement, as far as we’re concerned. The jacket’s nice and he looks polished and put together. We’re always saying that stars who have problems doing the red carpet thing should take their personal style and upscale it for the RC. This is a classic example. That the style is not our taste is mostly irrelevant. He pulled it together and he looks comfortable with the results. That’s good enough for us.

Attaboy.
