Check out the Duchess here, getting all Diane von F in the house!

Wedges and a print, darlings! The world may faint dead away from the shock.

But seriously, she looks fantastic. It’s amazing what a print and some cork wedges can do for a gal. This is all in her style wheelhouse, but those little additions take her from being Queen Elizabeth’s grand-daughter-in-law to being a stylish young woman who likes her look. There’s nothing forced or “I’m following the rules” about it.

She took the blue of that ring and made it her signature color. She’s so consistent with it that it almost comes off like a form of deliberate branding.  That’s a total “Be Me or Do Me” way of thinking, girl. Respect.

Betcha DVF did a fist pump when she saw these pics.

  • @Biting Panda

I need that ensemble, in my closet, right this minute!

    • PlethoraofBooks

Maybe if we pool our money together we can share it?

      • @Biting Panda

Though, I’m tickled to see that this is a look that can easily be redone on the cheap.

      • e jerry powell

The dress is only $325, though. You won’t have to sell a kidney or anything.

    • Kent Roby

      I love her prints; charming.

  • Carleenml

read yesterday that the dress already sold out, too. Go DVF!

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Oh good, now I can save my money.

  • Carrie

She looks amazing and effortless and gorgeous. Absolute home run!

  • NBG

OK, easily the best look of the trip so far. Not that the others have looked bad but this comes across as effortlessly stylish “but I’m still royalty, dammit.”

Where do I get those shoes?

    • Sonnet_PDX

The shoes are Stuart Weitzman Corkswoon wedges. (Credit to the Fug Girls for that tidbit).

      • Sonnet_PDX

Also, haha, I’m a doof. TLo have included a link above.

  • thecitysleeps

I love everything. Also her hair is insane. But I adore those wedges! Those are some kick ass wedges. Simple but effective!

    • She played volleyball in them too, the photos look like she is levitating.

Then again she did play hockey while pregnant in her Aquatalia boots plus wearing Alexander Mcqueen, she is a woman of enormous talent. 🙂

  • StelledelMare

I want the whole look. So simple but gorgeous and would suit just about anyone. I wish more ladystars would wear wedges. I much prefer them over most other types of heels. You would never catch me in some of the shoes we see them sporting. If it looks like it could be used as a deadly weapon, then I’ll probably be steering clear.

    • Sam Smith

She’s on her feet so much, I don’t think I every really seen her wear a shoe that looks painful.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

A DVF wrap dress still does the job-well done, Ms. Cambridge!

  • Sam Smith

Lovely look. I do wish she would stop clutching the clutch, but otherwise a win.

    • Beardslee

I would never in a million years carry a clutch, or bag of any sort, if I had staff to hold things for me.

      • sk8tfan

minions, my dear, you’d have minions.

      • marlie

That’s why I always wonder why the Queen almost *always* carries a handbag. She doesn’t have minions to carry her lipstick for her?

        • Billie_Dawn

I remember reading somewhere that the Queen’s purses are almost like security blankets for her. She does carry stuff in them, but it’s much more about having something familiar near her.

          • ALT19

She also uses them to signal to her aides when she’s done talking to someone and wants to move on – switching the bag from one arm to another, etc.

          • alyce1213

            That’s the right answer.

        • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

          Let’s play “What’s in Lillibet’s Bag?”

          1. Nintendo DS

          • marlie

            2. 16 different kinds of lipstick/lip gloss.

          • Sophie

            3. A picture of the royal corgis (grandchildren optional).

          • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

            4. Condoms.

          • Ramon Figueroa

As Bette Midler said, and ID that says “I am the Queen!”

          • marlie

I am laughing so inappropriately hard right now.

        • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

          6. Her Costco membership card. Do you KNOW how much bathroom tissue is needed at the palace?

    • Ginmaru

Maybe she has the keys to the castle in there?

    • marlie

I really think that she’s *supposed* to have her hands in front of her that way. In photos (where she’s not moving, shaking hands, waving), she’s almost ALWAYS like that). It seems like that was one of the “how to be a royal” behaviors that she started exhibiting.

  • carnush

They are just the cutest. I can’t take it.

  • Danielle

She should wear prints for the rest of her life. Absolutely stunning.

  • Mrs. Julien

She looks great, but I bet photographers were making sacrifices to the gods for a quick gust of wind. The skirt does not look to me like it is trustworthy in the presence of even a zephyr.

    • sugarkane105

Ha, I was wondering if she was placing her hands and her clutch down by her nethers for that exact reason.

    • giddypony

Don’t they (the minions) sew little weights in the hem to prevent that?

      • Mrs. Julien

Previous evidence has been no. She NEEDS to do that, but doesn’t always and I wondered if that was the case here.

      • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

I’ve been bitching for the last three years that she needs to weight her hems, but no one listens to me. *sadface*

I’m sure they ruin the way a dress moves, though.

    • SouthernGirlRena

The pictures were taken from an odd angle – like a smurf or mouse took them. Was the photographer laying on the pavement? How was this allowed? Inquiring minds want to know.

    • She arrived in a helicopter wearing this dress, and there were no fashion incidents. 😉

    • kimmeister

That’s one of the things a slip is for, although those are hard to come by these days (but I was able to find one yesterday!).

  • FrigidDiva

They are such a cute couple, I can hardly stand it. They had pictures of a boat race where Cathy was steering one ship and Will was on the other–she was wearing a baseball cap and a life vest and still managed too look graceful and stylish.

  • She as always looks lovely.

I am looking forward to the Zara and H&M knockoffs which are at my price point.

    • Sam Smith

Banana Republic has some similar dresses, I know b/c I have a couple in my closet. Do you think she has the dress stitched shut so there are no breezy blowings? That’s my only problem with wrap dresses, for some reason its always windy when I wear mine.

      • Maybe she uses tape of some kind?

I like the wrap top but the skirt part on me, but since I’ve lost weight it might not be as bad.

  • Darcy H

I mean she looks drop dead fantastic, no doubt, but the real question is WHERE IS THAT ADORABLE BABY?!

  • Judy_S

She looks great, all kudos deserved. However, I distinctly recall hesitating over whether to buy a set of sheets in that print.

    • cocohall

Sheets are supposed to be in soothing colors/prints (or so I’ve read, to help settle your nerves and let you drift off to sleep), so I would probably pass on that print for bedding as well; but the fabric is genius in that she absolutely “pops” so everyone in the crowd can play “Spot the Princess.”

  • Anna

    Perfection. Her hair is glorious.

  • Kitten Mittons

She is gorgeous. Love the outfit, and I need those shoes for my Easter outfit.
Seriously, though. Where’s the baby? I need my fix.

    • decormaven

They’re still wiping up all the puddles of drool from the adoring BKs. That baby is such a doll.

      • Kitten Mittons

Absolute doll. I actually googled to get my baby fix, and I found all these pictures of Kate, Will, and George in the tub, and my head exploded. I’ve since found out they were lookalikes, so I’ve been able to pick up and move on, but good lord. Cute overload.

  • Isabel

She’s joined the 21st century by updating a 20th century look. Brava.

  • Heather

She looks great, but Wills needs to step it up. Seriously, those trousers? They’re like baby blue Dockers.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Funny, I never even see him when he’s with her. Yeah, those pants are bad.

    • Spicytomato1

Heh, I was thinking Wills looked fairly mod compared to his double-breasted suit days, which thankfully seem to be behind him. I’m not a huge fan of the pants but still they represent a bit of progress to me.

  • KinoEye

Classy, sassy and springy. Love it all, even though I’m not a great fan of wedges. Good call on her branding that shade of sapphire. It’s definitely her color.

    • ALT19

The sapphire earrings she’s wearing here are rumored to be from Diana’s collection – Diana had some gorgeous sapphires. Maybe Kate will get to wear more of those as time goes on.

      • BayTampaBay

Like the big pearl & sapphire choker!

      • demidaemon

I heard that the Queen allowed her to take jewels from the royal collection for this trip in particular. Maybe they are from that?

      • pop_top

Yep, I think they are. I remember there was story that they were originally studded earrings of Diana’s and that William got them reset and gave them to her after they married.

  • Alyssa

She looks amazing. I would love to own everything she’s wearing!

  • BayTampaBay

Does Prince William look “strange” in some undefinable way or is it just me?

  • Tanya Wade

Tip to toe. Amazing. I want that dress.

  • Jecca2244

the DVF press office just took the rest of the week off.

  • OhSayNow

I am almost as sick of those wedges as I am of her nude pumps. Love the dress, though…I wish I could afford it.

  • Pennymac

Effortless and elegant. But I miss her best accessory, Prince George!

  • MzzPants

The a-line skirt is good for her…gives her shape. I don’t think sheath dresses are always her most flattering look.

  • Kent Roby

Aside: reading the Diane von F mention; I must share that I saw Dita Von Teese last week; I was dying over her beauty and the overwhelming abundance of rhinestones. She is just perfection. Anyhoo, back to the current post: Cathy looks cute, not at all costumey (like the red coat/hat ensemble she sported last week), and actually looks her age here, so cheers!

    • formerlyAnon

      That’s a fun sighting!

      • Kent Roby

She had a couple of shows at the House of Blues here in New Orleans….I was gay squealing at her costumes and sets. I also squealed the first time she took off her tiny corset when I saw that it left no marks on her alabaster skin!

  • SugarSnap108

Love it, and await the knock-off version.

  • titaness25

Do you think she has a minion who walks before her with a wind machine? Her hair. HER HAIR.
(And she looks nice in the clothes too.)

    • stubbornthoughts

Seriously, what the hell does she put in her hair? I know she’s someone who likes to self-manage from the neck up, so I want all her goddamn hair secrets. If she puts poop in it twice a day, I WILL DO IT. (Maybe.)

      • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

She uses those things…not implants or inserts. Oh, god, I forget what they are called every damn time.

  • ScarlettHarlot

She looks fantastic, I want that entire outfit. (I have my own sapphire engagement ring, that I got years before Cathy got hers thankyouverymuch!) I like William’s look here, too, minus the wrinkles. They both look very put together but relaxed.

  • andi56

I have always felt a little funny in a DVF, because it seems the waistline rides too high. However, since Cathy’s also rides higher than the waist, I’m going to make mine go another season! Nothing like a princess to validate my dress choices!

  • Bill’s in jeans so I won’t bitch about jewelry, but cork wedges always come off a little “Long Island Girl hoping to get into Studio 54” to me. Everything else (including her earrings) are fab.

  • Yolanda13

    FAB. U. LOUS!!

  • tallgirl1204

A print is so much more effective at hiding baby accidents than that pretty yellow frock was the other day. Prints, the mama’s friend.

  • CatherineRhodes

Geez, Prince, button your shirt. All you need are a few gold chains. Nobody wants to see royal chest hair!

  • Joanna

Luv ha. Seriously – I need to make an inspiration board with all of her looks, and then try to replicate them on the cheap, lol.

  • MilaXX

    Really great relatable look.

    • Spicytomato1

Yes, I was thinking “easy, breezy and not super-Royal.” Love it.

  • msdamselfly

OMG So boring. Look how high she has that neckline.

  • Judy_J

I’m not usually a fan of wedges, but I LOVE those shoes! The dress is great, too. She looks perfectly put together. Nicely done.

  • Anathema_Device

Love, love, love. This aside is T Lo related: I was telling Kilted at the SF book signing that I’m going to treat myself to a DVF dress for my 50th later this year. I’ve wanted one for too long, and they never go out of style…or so it seems.

    • decormaven

Fabulous idea. Those wrap dresses truly are investment dressing.

    • random_poster

I love that! I have a bit to go before 50 (a bit = long enough that I cringed a little at typing that), and some pounds to shed, but treating myself to a DVF wrap dress is wonderful motivation.

    • marlie

You could “treat yourself” now, because it’s such a classic garment that you’d get tons of wear out of it. 😉

      • Anathema_Device

        haha…nice thought.

  • MsKitty

Love the wedges. I think the pants Wills meant to wear didn’t come back from the valet in time so had to grab a pair from the bottom of the suitcase. Happens to the best of us.

  • formerlyAnon

40 years of DVF and still works like a fucking charm. Some “icons” DESERVE to be called icons.

    • demidaemon

And every time I see her interviewed, I’m just blown away. She’s just so cool, so passionate, and her accent. She’s probably the only fashion designer I’d want to meet just to have a nice chat with over cocktails.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Love this whole look and would gladly wear it myself. I would need a lower heel on those wedges though.

  • marlie

I almost always think Cathy’s daytime appearance dresses would be perfect as my everyday work attire, and this just reinforces that belief. I love it. LOVE.

  • siriuslover

She does look marvelous, but can we talk about Wils here? Is that jacket too short on him or something? It looks short and tight. Otherwise, they look totally adorable…and happy in ways I never saw his parents.

  • Little_Olive

I am the worst, I know… I hate the hem on that dress.

She looks amazing, although I don’t think the dress is all that -but then again I am not big on prints. Major kudos for abandoning the classic, demure pump.

  • KT

Yes!!! Someone get this woman more DVF, stat!!!!!!!

I so hope that DVF did a fist pump. Cutest fist pump ever.

    • kimmeister

I was tickled by the mental picture of DVF doing that.

  • Shawn EH

DVF, serving women of all ages and sizes with flattering proportions and prints since the seventies! Be Me, completely!

  • decormaven

I think she carries a clutch just as a backdrop to that killer ring. She looks amazing.

  • TLJezebel

Is she knocked up again? Doesn’t look it.

    • She drank wine a couple of days ago, so going with no on that one. 🙂

    • I don’t think they’d risk her being hospitalised with morning sickness again during this trip.

  • MarissaLG

I know she’s at work, but this is such a great vacation look.

  • megohd

This woman was simply born to rule. I hope she and Wills are happy … and stay that way.

  • That would be my daytime UNIFORM if I had all the money in the world – effortless chic.

  • unbornfawn

    Love this look on her.

  • Sissy

  • Shug

  • Jessica Freeman

She is so flawless I wonder if anyone even looks at William anymore.

  • Aidan B

  • LadyVimes

NEED THIS. All of it. Please.

Wills looks pretty good too. Younger look and much less stuffy than the suits he was wearing in the previous posts which were yawn-inducing.
    No Georgie this time though?

  • demidaemon

So pretty. DVF deserves a fist pump every frickin day.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Fantastic is exactly the word I was thinking.

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Is she wearing hose, or are her legs bare? If those are her bare legs, I’m just going to go weep into my compression socks.

    • MannahattaMamma

youth. that’s what’s on her legs.

  • rainwood1

She always looks fabulous, but effortless at the same time. It’s a hard combination to master, but she most certainly has it down pat.

  • largishbearishAtlish

Love Love LOVE the blue in the dress. LOVE. It almost looks batik… what a great print! (did I mention *LOVE*?). She is just a breath of fresh air. More of this color on her, stat.

  • Vtg Fashion Library

    This woman gives me life.

  • Sophie

Love the dress and the blues in the print.

  • e jerry powell

Such an awesome throwback look. I’m GAGGING!

  • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

  • There have been many DFV dresses I’ve coveted in my time, but none so much as this.

  • t bell

Just a winner, what else can be said?

  • patticake1601

They are both dressed in blue posing in front of the Blue Mountains, about 90 mins from Sydney.

  • FridaStaire

She must have been freezing! Hope her knickers were fur. Ethical fur, of course, i.e. faux.

    • It’s not that cold in Katoomba at the moment, is it?

      • FridaStaire

Too cold for that outfit! Though maybe British stoicism helps.

        • At the moment, 15C is passing for a balmy spring day and I am in short sleeves and bare legs!

          • FridaStaire

…whereas 19C has me in tights, boots and a cardi!

  • She looks amazing as always, her hair is a constant source of jealousy for me.

    Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.

  • onefifteen

So very bored with these two. Show me Harry up to his antics any day of the week instead.

  • d4divine

    I totally agree!

  • Pablo

I think that if you see young pictures of QEII, you can see the same A-line dresses just with a lot more jewlery. She is following Betty’s footsteps only making them her own.

  • alainalynn

She always seems to be dressing in a way that makes her engagement ring pop! I love it though. That ring is gorgeous!

  • Gorgeous.

However…seriously, is she only allowed to wear the LK Bennet pumps and cork wedges? Duchess needs herself some strappy sandals.

(…Maybe no strappy sandals because they look like ass with the Royally Required Nude Hose?)
