A rundown, darlings! Can you even stand it? To be fair, we haven’t been out in the harsh red carpetless desert for nearly as long as we were through most of 2020/21, but even so, we’ve missed our little driveby judgments, yes we have. The good news is that Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood party was so stacked with attendees that we had to break this rundown into two parts (we also gave Sydney Sweeney, Noah Schnapp and Alexandra Shipp their own spotlight posts). The bad news is that you’ll probably only recognize about half of the people here. That’s fine! They’re all up-and-comers, which is kind of the whole point of this affair. Now let’s get down to judging the next gen, shall we?
Abigail Cowen
It’s okay, but we don’t like the color at all. Had this been in, we don’t know… pink or black or purple, maybe, we think it would pop a little more.
Alycia Pascual-Peña
The fit’s pretty great. We’re not in love with the color, the textile mismatch or the invisible shoes.
Ariana Greenblatt in Harbison Studio
She was so good in such a tiny part in the Barbie movie that we feel kind of bad for her. She should have been out all summer in cute looks, working this moment. This feels a little serious for an event like this, but it is an industry event, so a certain amount of mature professionalism isn’t entirely a bad idea.
Brec Bassinger
It’s simple but cute. Given the somewhat generic nature of the dress, we’d have rec’d a more focus-pulling shoe choice.
Charlie Hall
This would be fine if it actually fit him better. His mom is Julia Louis-Dreyfus, so we’re pretty sure he can get nicer suits than this.
Dylan Mulvaney in Stella McCartney
It’s a little too matchy for our tastes, but we’re in a Barbie moment in fashion. It’s fine, but we don’t think that blonde does anything for her.
Gigi Goode
It doesn’t seem like the head styling goes with the outfit. The top is all sparkly whimsy and the bottom feels a little Stevie Nicks.
Joshua Bassett
Not interesting at all, but extremely well done.
Kylie Cantrall
Cute. Can’t argue with any of it.
Maddie Ziegler in Alberta Ferrett
Nice to see someone get away from the sexy party dress and serve up something with a little more attitude.
Madison Bailey in Michael Kors Collection
The lady came coordinated and she came dramatic. This looks fantastic.
Michael Evans Behling in Dolce & Gabbana
That is the hottest sheer we’ve seen on a red carpet in ages.
Sherry Cola
It’s cute, but this is something you wear to The View, not to a party like this one.
Skai Jackson in Naeem Khan
The top is too tight and the skirt is giving off too much of a folk costume vibe for us. We might like the design if it had more color to it.
Sophie Nélisse
Simple but impeccable.
Steve Lacy in Saint Laurent
We’re honestly surprised the face mask didn’t have more of an effect on high fashion. This is dramatic and looks difficult to wear to an August party in LA. We have no choice but to respect it.
Tyler Alvarez
Credit for the attempt. The idea is sound, but the jacket is too shiny and the pants look cheap as hell.
