Congratulations to Hamnet star Jessie Buckley for winning the Leading Actress BAFTA. To mark the occasion, we’re going to nitpick your choice of dress to death. Don’t worry! It’s nothing personal. Except to the people at Chanel, who did you wrong.

So. It’s been good to see her try and up her fashion game during this season. She’s had a dicey relationship with the red carpet for some time and as professional red carpet bitches, it warms our cold little hearts to see a star really try to wrestle with what she wants to get out of that situation. We think one of the first and best things any fashion-reluctant or fashion-averse person can do for the style is commit to wearing colors that flatter and take good pictures. She nailed it on that front. It’s the style of design that lets her down. The back is pretty. It has a lovely drape and the row of decorative buttons is a pleasing walking-away element. But from the front, it looks blousy and dowdy on her. The neckline is kind of basic and mumsy and those flower epaulets are awful. This is a tricky textile because it can look bulky and the design simply tries to do too much around the bust and shoulders. We also think the waist hits a little high on her.
