After weeks of wandering the content desert, we’ve come back from the holiday weekend positively flush with things to show you, thanks to the Venice Film Festival and its ability to attract stars like some sort of celebrity flypaper. In the interests of briskly catching up, here’s a dress we hate:
But fine, here are the deets we should have put in the opener: Amanda Seyfried came to the Venice Film Festival to premiere her musical about the founder of the Shaker movement (no, really) The Testament of Ann Lee, and we’d say her choice of outfit for the occasion indicates she’s planning for a vigorous awards season. Normally, we’d put this up for a vote, but as we said, we’re flush and we’ve got another frock planned for that treatment later. Besides, we don’t think there’s much to debate here. Either you love that sad wreath bow or you loathe it. We know which side we come down on. Aside from that detail, we actually love the design, which borrows quite literally from ecclesiastical vestments, which is pretty ironic, given what she’s promoting. Putting aside our automatic dislike of bows in fashion, and the fact that this one is so sad and craftsy, it’s the way it’s incorporated into the skirt that tips it over into awful for us. The brooch choker is beautiful and while we don’t think the slick hair is the best choice for her, it’s a good choice for this look. Really, if she’d just ripped the bow off, we’d love this.
