No one has railed against the celebrity propensity toward theme-dressing to promote their projects; a publicity technique that Margot Robbie pioneered during the iconic Barbie promo tour in 2023 at a level that no one else has ever managed to achieve. In the years since, it’s usually just been shorthand for a particularly gimmicky red carpet style. We suspect it will die out soon (but don’t quote us on that). Still, with her Barbie days receding in the rear view mirror, it’s clear that the A Big Bold Beautiful Journey star wants to ditch the themey stuff and remind everyone that she’s a baddie. We, for our parts, find ourselves wishing she’d stick to a theme, because her instincts have been mighty tacky lately.
LEAVING HER HOTEL IN CELINE
This isn’t terrible, although the dress does feel slightly off-season. Not that she needs to be sporting pumpkin sweaters in September, but this looks more like a dress for high summer. The shoes are kind of cute, but they look dumb with a mini-dress.
ARRIVING AT THE KELLY CLARKSON STUDIOS IN CHRISTOPHER ESBER
It just looks cheap and flimsy. It’s hard to find anything that would be unflattering to Margot Robbie, but this comes close.
LEAVING LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS IN PHOEBE PHILO
We can’t say we love the look, but it’s at least a little interesting. We think the jacket would look great with a skirt or jeans. The sandals look kind of ugly.
ON LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS IN MADGA BUTRYM
It’s a bit much for a talk show appearance, but that’s the current trend. Speaking of trends, this is like the fourth or fifth crumb catcher bust we’ve seen this week. Let it die soon.
