Those adorable queerbaiters Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor hit the red carpet for the New York premiere of their period gay romance drama The History of Sound.

The looks are cute and just about right for a New York prestige-film screening in September, we’d say. It’s not a venue that calls for formalwear, and one could argue that New York, as well as the indie film scene, pretty much requires a more relaxed – but not sporty – vibe. Artsy New York style, in other words. Like going to a gallery opening. That’s usually the brief. To be fair, Josh is literally sporting formalwear, but he’s doing it in a weird sort of way that suits him and would likely look silly on an LA premiere red carpet. Paul looks like a finance guy who stopped by for free drinks after work and that is about as iconic a New Yorker sort of look as you’ll find. He looks good.
ABOUT THE MOVIE:
In 1917, Lionel—a young, talented music student—meets David at the Boston Conservatory, where they bond over a deep love of folk music. Years later, Lionel receives a letter from David, leading to an impromptu journey through the backwoods of Maine to collect traditional songs. This unexpected reunion, ensuing love affair, and the music they collect and preserve, will shape the course of Lionel’s life far beyond his own awareness.
