A trio of celebrity ladies sat front row at the Gucci show and the house provided 2/3 of them with some pretty fun looks.
DEMI MOORE
This is spectacular. While it looks to be extremely stiff and heavy, which might have been mitigated by opening the design up a little, it’s so dramatic and head-turning that the heaviness seems more like a deliberate effect; like a queen of old, weighed down in her raiment. Except this queen is sleek and she can raise her arms if she wants to. What really sells the look is the unusual color story. Those bronzes and oranges really pop on her. We could do without so much of the dangly bits.
SERENA WILLIAMS
As sheer gowns go, this one’s pretty much a keeper. The sheer effect is subtle, helped by the even more subtle pattern. The draping gets a little fuzzy around the midsection, however. We’re pretty tired of marabou feathers in fashion, but this has an elegance to it that keeps it from look too drag queen.
GWYNETH PALTROW
Putting aside the oddness of whatever that metal thing is, we’re a little surprised at how…unkempt she looks. The pieces are all nice enough; classic sportswear looks, but that’s just way too much Gucci branding for one outfit to bear. We don’t have a problem with luxury goods that utilize their own brand logo in their designs. It’s kind of the point of having high-label luxury goods (as opposed to, say, bespoke or artisanal items that are in the same price range but don’t come with that brand signifier). But an entire outfit of nothing but brand logos is goofy-looking, even if the print is subtle. In related news, that’s way too much beige for Gwyneth, who’s already pretty beige.
