Generally speaking, when we’re faced with an onslaught of high red carpet gownery like the Cannes Film Festival, we have to make editorial decisions about who we’re going to cover and how, because there’s just no way we could get to every dress and tux. And generally speaking, those decisions tend to be rather easy ones that come down to just how super-famous the subject is and how likely the possibility is that a lot of their fans will be googling to find out what they wore and coming here. Right now, our front page is practically nothing but Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina, Halle, Emma Stone, Naomi Campbell, and Dakota Johnson and that’s pretty much the way it has to be for these major events. Alba Rohrwacher is a wildly well-regarded actress and a Cannes jury member, so she’s no slouch, of course, but we probably wouldn’t be giving her this spotlight treatment except dammit, she insists on being so damn interesting about her style choices.
IN SCHIAPARELLI AT THE CHOPARD UNIVERSE DINNER
This butter yellow keeps popping up lately and we can’t say it’s the most photogenic or flattering for pale women, but this is a fabulous suit. We love the silhouette but we think it would look so much better on her in black.
IN VALENTINO COUTURE AT THE EDDINGTON PREMIERE
It’s giving “sexy five-star hotel manager” and we don’t really mind it. We’ll never love tulip skirts and we think the fuss happening in the blouse could use an edit or two, but we like how there’s this almost Edwardian flare tacked onto ’80s businesswear. Somehow, the juxtaposition works for her.
IN SAINT LAURENT AT THE CHOPARD GALA
Granted, there’s nothing particularly forward-looking about this style. The purple gown she wore the other day probably should have gone here instead, but we can only be as God made us and She made us two queens who love a hot ladytux moment.
