Red Carpet Rundown: WUTHERING HEIGHTS Global Junket Photo Call

As we noted when we covered the world premiere, we don’t think people were prepared for how weird the fashion was going to get on the press tour for Wuthering Heights. We are delighted to report that the cast’s looks for the photo call were exactly as we predicted:

Because that is some funky-ass, fucked-up fashion and we have to admit, we’re kind of here for it. Let’s start with the one you want us to start with:

As we said yesterday, we think it’s clear that the people involved with this film understand that it’s not a love story, despite the film’s marketing campaign and we think the best way of gauging that is by looking at how the star of the film – who more or less invented theme-dressing on the red carpet – is dressing for these occasions. This does not say romance. It says fetish. As a design, it’s positively awful, but as branding, as a way of making this press tour go viral (which she’s good at), it can’t be beat. That “skirt” is hilariously terrible.

They exhibit absolutely no chemistry when they’re together, which seems kind of odd. He sure does love a pair of wide-legged pants over a pair of dainty doll shoes. We suppose he wants to avoid looking like Frankenstein’s monster on this tour, but we wish he’d start sporting footwear with a bit more weight to it. The jacket is gorgeous.

Emerald is keeping it low-key so far, which surprises us a bit. We can’t really defend it or articulate why, but we actually love what Charlie XCX is wearing. We’re pretty sure we’d hate it on a lot of other wearers, but it suits her perfectly.

Love Hong’s look for being dramatic, but also very cute. It’s just right for her. We give Alison all the credit in the world for committing to the weirdness, and if we’re being honest, we don’t hate this at all, but we’re afraid we can’t sign off on floral cargo pants with a corset. The very idea. Come on, now.
