Are you ready for a trip to GOWN TOWN? Our folders are bursting at the seams with Cannes Film Festival red carpet looks that we can’t possibly spotlight in a timely manner, so it’s time for you to put your judgin’ pants on and help us clear them out.
Alba Rorhwacher in Prada at the “Eddington” Premiere
We have a Style File post ready to go for her because she’s a jury member and she’s made some legitimately discussable choices this week, but we figured we’d slot this one in with the rest of the gowns because it tends to make a nice change of pace from the standard. The color’s gorgeous. The design suits her, but the whole thing feels a little unresolved.
Amal Clooney in John Galliano at the “Bono: Stories of Surrender” Premiere
Can’t argue with that.
Diane Kruger in Dolce & Gabbana at “The Richest Woman in the World” Premiere
We can, however, argue with that. In fact, someone would eventually have to pull us away from it because of the continuous, sustained screams or rage.
Eva Longoria in Tamara Ralph Couture at “The Phoenician Scheme” Premiere
It’s fine, if a little basic. Matching that necklace to it is… not sophisticated, in our opinion.
Isabelle Huppert in Balenciaga Couture at “The Richest Woman in the World” Premiere
Me may not have loved every style choice she’s been making, but her beat has been on fire all week. This looks great and the color really works for her, but there’s no way this thing didn’t look like a 5-year-old’s Barbie’s hair in an hour or two.
Julia Garner in Tom Ford at the “Eddington” Premiere
Please say a silent prayer of support and good wishes for your manly hosts, as the realization dawns on them that fringe is a red-hot red carpet trend and they’re going to have grit their teeth through. Surprisingly, despite our dislike of both fringe and lavender, we love how well this is styled.
Julianne Moore in Bottega Veneta at “The Phoenician Scheme” Premiere
It’s elegant and understated but she kind of looks like she got shot with an arrow.
Mia Threapleton in Oscar de la Renta at “The Phoenician Scheme” Premiere
The gown is gorgeous and the color looks amazing on her. We love the idea of gold elements with this shade, but the embellishments on the bodice look a little chintzy to us.
Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu in Saint Laurent at the “Nouvelle Vague” Premiere
It’s simple, but the colors really make it. We’re not loving the shape of the toe box on that shoe.
Rooney Mara in Givenchy Couture at the “Eddington” Premiere
She looks like someone’s about to help her put her wedding gown on.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Balenciaga Couture at the “Nouvelle Vague” Premiere
Gorgeous, but those black pumps are a record scratch.
Zoey Deutch in Chanel Couture at the “Nouvelle Vague” Photo Call
VERY Audrey. We’re not mad at it, although we’d like it more without the bows.
Zoey Deutch in Chanel at the “Nouvelle Vague” Premiere
This is very pretty on her, but we’d like it more with 2/3 of the peplums removed.
