Pope Tilda spent the weekend serving Chanel looks at the Berlinale and we’re going to have to amend two long-held beliefs. The first is that only Kristen Stewart can make Chanel look cool or hot, and the second is that Chanel makes a poor fit for the pontiff’s envelope-pushing style. Turns out? We were wrong on both! Take it away, Your Excellency.
IN CHANEL AT THE END SCREENING
Now, we realize that we’re not likely to get universal agreement on this one, but as far as we’re concerned, this may be the only instance in which those jeans actually work. We like the unusual design of the top, but if it had been worn with a more conventional Chanel bottom (i.e., a matching tweed), we might have had more ammunition for our argument that the house aesthetic doesn’t suit her. But by pairing the jacket/top with wide-legged denim gauchos and those offbeat boots, the look becomes so odd and eye-catching that we can’t imagine anyone else making it work.
IN CHANEL AT THE MICKEY 17 PREMIERE
She almost had us with this one. The jacket and hair look great, but the pants and the top are kind of awful. Still, it feels like she’s finally found her way with this brand collaboration. K Stew famously took her Chanel in a punk direction to make it work, but Tilda seems to have figured out how to marry her Bowie style with the brand’s tweeds.
