Disney has released the full trailer for their upcoming “live action” (term used very loosely) remake of their classic Snow White. It looks kind of awful.
First off, there’s so much digital slop, from the backgrounds to the freakish-looking seven dwarves, that it completely negates the entire point – if there even is one – of adapting a classic cartoon for live action. Second, while we think it’s possible to turn Snow White into a modern heroine (largely because it was done quite well in both Mirror, Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman), the rather insipid Disney version of the character simply doesn’t lend itself to that kind of interpretation. Put bluntly, Rachel Zegler looks dumb in that wig and dress. Gal Gadot, on the other hand, was born to play the beautiful, low-emotive Evil Queen and she looks kind of great. She’s the only thing that does.
