Angelina Jolie came to the BFI London Film Festival to premiere her Maria Callas biopic Maria. We are thrilled for two reasons. The first is that she’s not theme-dressing or cosplaying at all. The second? Your girl’s showing a fresh new attitude and we think we like it.
Granted, there’s nothing new about a black suit on a red carpet. It’s not even new for her. She’s got more than a couple of tuxedo and pantsuit moments under her belt, so to speak. But there’s an unstudied, relaxed sort of confidence to this deployment, like she’s got nothing to prove. The relaxed fit and the boots give it that sense, with those gorgeous earrings lending the look an air of formality. We don’t always love her style choices, but this one’s really well put together. From the lady who has a literal red carpet leg-baring pose named after her, this is a nice turn of events. On the other hand, it’s D&G, which kind of sucks. Plus, we wonder if we’re not overpraising a fairly basic look. For these reasons, we’re turning the final call over to y’all. Maybe you hate this? Let’s hear it.
