Okay, boys. Line up for judgment. The Emmys tend to be one of, if not thee most conventional and conservative of the major awards show red carpets. Television is an industry that survives on mass appeal, after all. What we’re trying to say here is that most of the men on the Emmys red carpet opted for the traditional tux, but a few of them managed to sneak in a little self-expression and envelope-pushing.
Alan Cumming in Teddy Vonranson

This feels like it’s trying to do too much. It also looks a bit too heavy for this time of year, but the nights get nippy in LA, so what do we know?
Andrew Scott in Vivienne Westwood

He’s always drawn to these throwback disco looks and we almost never think any of them suit him. This is one of his better attempts, but the jacket looks enormous on him and the shirt doesn’t coordinate well with it.
Bowen Yang in Bode

Nice suit, but we don’t like the blouse at all.
Chris Perfetti in Christian Siriano

Only he could pull this off. He’s really good at choosing weird pieces for which he’s extremely well suited. We can see why he’d want to leave the bottom of the shirt open, because it would wind up looking like a dress if he buttoned it all the way. Still, we don’t think the bare belly helps the look or looks right in this setting.
Dan Levy in Loewe

We didn’t like it. It looks like it’s trying too hard. Also, the pants are too tight.
Diego Luna in Brunello Cucinelli

Well done.
D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai

The face paint is a symbol adopted in support of missing or murdered Indigenous women, which is, of course, an element that rises above any fashion critique. But we’ll add that showing up impeccably dressed and groomed is the best way to approach any red carpet protest action or political support. He nailed it. He looks amazing. Love the rings.
Hiroyuki Sanada in Dior

A gorgeous tux. Love the pleats and hints of gold in the tie.
Jeremy Allen White in Calvin Klein

Perfectly acceptable.
Jonathan Bailey in Giorgio Armani

Hot shit and he knows it.
Joshua Jackson

The tux is gorgeous, but the loafers need to be patent leather and ABSOLUTELY need to be worn with socks. This is formalwear, sir.
Lamorne Morris in Dior

Flawless. Love the brooch.
Martin Short

Perfect.
Matt Bomer in Brioni

Pure stunning. What a great color for him.
Richard Gadd in Loewe

We wish he didn’t look so sloppy in it because it’s a great look.
Ricky Martin in Tom Ford

No arguments here.
Taylor Zakhar Perez in Gucci

The subtle checkerboard design takes this away from being generic. He looks fantastic, although the jacket looks a little short.
Tyler James Williams in Dolce & Gabbana

Never gets it wrong. He’s a master at dressing for his own looks and body.
