We take a break now from the high glam of the Venice Film Festival and turn toward the equally as glam red carpet premiere of The Deliverance, where cast members Mo’nique, Andra Day, Glenn Close and Demi Singleton served looks and posed like their lives depended on it.

Glenn needed some help staying upright.

This is lovely. The fit is great and the silver-blue of the embellishments coordinate nicely with her hair. The embellishments are a bit heavy and we don’t love the droopy straps, but this is pretty great look for her.

We genuinely can’t even tell what we’re looking at. While the print is a potentially interesting way to utilize a sheer, there’s entirely too much of it. That wrap/sleeve/train situation is incomprehensible and so distracting that her whole visual just comes off like a cacophony. Some serious editing was required for this one.

She definitely appears to be enjoying wearing this, but it’s forcing her into these stiff poses that make her look strange. It’s kind of a shame that Catherine O’Hara stepped out in a better version of this design on the same night, but even without the comparison, we just don’t think this works for Glenn. She clearly can’t move comfortably in it and the various shots of her leaning on her co-stars give the impression that it’s literally weighing her down. We’re all for taking risks, but this one wasn’t worth it.

We’ve come around on belly cutouts for the most part, but we’re still keeping this line in the sand: if you’re in a gown that exposes your belly button, you’re in a tacky gown. It’s a shame, because it looks pretty great on her otherwise.
