Isabel Deroy-Olson and Lily Gladstone at the FANCY DANCE New York Premiere

Fancy Dance stars Lily Gladstone and Isabel Deroy-Olsen continued their week of fashion campaigning by serving a couple of really strong and distinctive looks at the New York premiere.

Isabel Deroy-Olson in Chanel

We feel a little insane admitting this, but yes, this leather blouse and shorts set from Chanel is looking pretty cute. We have to assume that at least 90% of why it works come down to the wearer. Not many could make a pair of high-waisted leather shorts work with a chain belt, but this gal is pulling it off. We can’t decide if the embroidery is distracting or if it adds something essential to the look. Whatever the alchemy is, this is all working.

We admit to being a bit surprised that we like this so much, since any garment with that many things dangling off of it would normally annoy the hell out of us, but she can handle a lot of gewgaws and frippery, it would seem. The dress looks great on her and we like that the styling was kept relatively simple. She looks pretty and glam in a breezy sort of way which feels like a new direction for her.

– The bond between an Indigenous girl and her aunt proves stronger than ever when their loved one goes missing.
– Lily Gladstone stars in Fancy Dance, directed by Erica Tremblay, streaming June 28.
– Since her sister’s disappearance, Jax (Lily Gladstone) has cared for her niece Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson) by scraping by on the Seneca-Cayuga reservation in Oklahoma. Every spare minute goes into finding her missing sister while also helping Roki prepare for an upcoming powwow. At the risk of Jax losing custody to Roki’s grandfather, Frank (Shea Whigham), the pair hit the road and scour the backcountry to track down Roki’s mother in time for the powwow. What begins as a search gradually turns into a far deeper investigation into the complexities and contradictions of Indigenous women moving through a colonized world while at the mercy of a failed justice system. Gladstone stars alongside Deroy-Olson, Ryan Begay, Crystle Lightning, with Audrey Wasilewski and Whigham.
