Poolman star and director Chris Pine stopped by the Jimmy Kimmel studios in one of his signature looks. If Little Edie Beale of Grey Gardens was reincarnated as a hot cishet white man, we’re pretty sure this is exactly how they would dress:

He’s been getting a lot of press lately for his rather colorful casual style, but at least some of it strikes us as promotional in nature. He is essentially dressing like his character from the movie. To be fair, Chris Pine has always had an eclectic, sexy-boho grampa kind of style. We wouldn’t dare claim that anything he’s wearing above isn’t a true representation of his style. But he co-wrote and directed the movie in which his character dresses more or less the same way. In other words, it’s promotional in nature, but only because Chris Pine based the character’s look on his own style preferences. Even so, we would bet a donut that once this film is in his rearview mirror, this rather specific iteration of his style will go with it. We’d just like to note – very approvingly, if it’s not clear – that nothing about this look is haphazard or random. From the grooming to the pocket square to the loafers, everything is extremely specific. He looks great, but he’s operating at a level of fashion that most mere mortals could never pull off.

Poolman tells the story of Darren Barrenman (Chris Pine), a native Los Angeleno who spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block and fighting to make his hometown a better place to live. When he is tasked by a femme fatale to uncover the truth behind a shady business deal, Darren enlists the help of his friends to take on a corrupt politician and a greedy land developer. His investigation reveals a hidden truth about his beloved city and himself.
