We have a massive backlog of awards season red carpet looks to get through and it’s well past time for us to put the SAG Awards to bed and move on to the PGAs and Film Independent Spirit Awards, so LINE UP FOR JUDGMENT, STARS!
Ariana Greenblatt in Vera Wang
Simple but stunning. The silhouette, the color and the richness of the velvet all combine to make the look sing.
Bel Powley in Chanel
Awkward and overdesigned, like so much current Chanel.
Billie Eilish in Vivienne Westwood
It’s okay. Sheer sweaters are dumb.
Elizabeth Debicki in Armani Privé
That’s gorgeous. She might not be the best wearer for it, if only because she looks so washed out, but the textile is beautiful.
Fran Drescher in Reem Acra
If anyone deserves to take a victory lap at the SAG Awards this year, it’s SAG AFTRA’s hard-working president. She looks great.
Greta Lee in The Row
We just don’t see how those gloves belong with that dress.
Halle Bailey in Dolce & Gabbana
Flawless.
Hannah Waddingham in Tony Ward Couture
Should’ve worn this one on her Christmas special. We have no issue with it, though. Sparkly red will always read a little holiday to us, but this is her style sweet spot and it’s hard to claim she looks bad in it.
Issa Rae in Off-White
She looks gorgeous. The dress is very pretty, but the tricky bust brings it down a bit.
Jennifer Aniston in Celine
Just the absolute queen of “Throw something on, pose, and keep it moving.” It’s not a bad dress at all, but she is not a gal who gives a shit about what she’s wearing, so she can’t even try to sell it.
Joey King in Givenchy
Joey, we’ll be blunt. Your dress is ugly.
Kathryn Hahn in Givenchy
Y’know, we’ve been fairly light in our criticisms of her style over the years, but something just snapped in us. You’re wearing Givenchy! Why do you always look such a mess?!? She NEVER gets the details or choices right. Change your stylist!
Lisa Ann Walter in Michael Costello
Michael Costello came up to us in a NYFW tent ten years ago and said “WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO MUCH?” Now you know. We don’t hate you, Michael. We do hate this dress, though. It’s tacky as hell.
Melissa McCarthy in Puey Quinones
She looks great in silver but those sleeves are heinous.
Penélope Cruz in Chanel
As we said, awkward and overdesigned (although not as bad as Bel’s dress).
Rachel Brosnahan in Tamara Ralph Couture
It could come off garish or tacky, but the styling is perfection. She looks amazing. We’re digging the return of huge ballgown skirts.
Reese Witherspoon in Elie Saab Couture
It’s nice, but it’s generic.
Selena Gomez in Versace
Also nice and generic.
Sherry Cola in Halston
From the Pat Nixon collection at Sears.
Storm Reid in Balmain
It’s interesting, but we’d like it more without the sparkly green trim. It wasn’t needed. Also the shoes don’t go.
Tracee Ellis Ross in Balmain
Love this. It’s unusually restrained for her but it still has real personality to it.
