Y’know, we actually have some sympathy for awards track stars right now. We usually think it looks so fun to swing through awards season as a person with buzz and nominations. The parties! The glossy editorials! The swag bags! The schmoozing! The endless compliments! And of course, topping the list (from our perspective), the fashion. But everything is so smooshed together right now, thanks to the strike pushing the Emmys back and all of the jostling for supremacy on the awards calendar by ceremonies like the Golden Globes, AFI Awards and Critics Choice. It not only looks exhausting, but it tends to make stars much more susceptible to style issues. We think they sometimes get a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of outfits they have to wear. Case in point, Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson, who has been on a real style streak lately, serving super-polished, perfectly fitted, high fashion.

This is lovely. It’s perfectly tailored for her and it’s sheer done right. By that we mean the sheer aspect is one part of a larger design instead of the entire point of the dress. Her hair and makeup look fantastic and the jewelry is well chosen. We call this a win. Unfortunately, she must have gotten tired or let her stylist take the wheel, because…

This was shockingly terrible. She gushed about it on the red carpet, but we think it’s awful. Putting aside the ill-advised wrinkles (which are clearly part of the design), the style, shape and color are terrible for her. Not to get all huffy about it, but anything with a Dior Haute Couture label sewn inside of it should not look anything like this mess.
