ARGYLLE London World Premiere Red Carpet Rundown

The star-studded cast of Argylle hit the London premiere red carpet in fairly high style, with only one or two disasters in the mix. Let’s assess, yes?

We are, quite frankly, horrified. We thought she looked pretty great until we scrolled down. That doesn’t look so much like a sheer skirt with a tuxedo jacket as it does a tuxedo jacket that’s sprouted some sort of mold or fungus.

The jacket’s a little snug, but we can’t argue with anything else. Love that eggplant color, which really elevates the look.

In our best Samantha Jones: Oh, honey. You’re a movie star. She has a long history of snagging some of the least flattering, most dowdy-looking frocks we’ve ever seen on a red carpet. She claimed a lot of difficulties in securing high fashion pieces that fit her, although we always found that a little odd given the number of plus-size stars who routinely score high end looks for the red carpet. Obviously, the fashion world privileges the 6-feet-tall size 2s over everyone else, but we really think her style fumbles were less about lack of options and more about a general discomfort with the setting, which is perfectly understandable. At any rate, this is how she should go: simple, flattering, in a color that sings on her. If you’re not a fashion girl, just go for whatever version of Hollywood Glam makes the most sense for you. Needs a pendant, though. And the makeup needs a total rethink. Still! Good frock!

We’re not big on dresses that match your hair, but she’s Mermaid Barbie, so that kind of tracks. Besides, this looks fantastic on her. Love that unusual shade of red. We keep seeing a lot Merlots and aubergines lately and we’re digging it. It’s like the winter version of Barbiecore.

Without flaw. Perhaps a little robotic, but we can’t get mad. We think he’d benefit from getting away from the James Bond styles and into some very English tweeds.

It’s a nightgown with delusions of grandeur.

John Cena and Shay Shariatzadeh

We have no idea why he’s dressed like a 1930s gangster, but we can’t say it isn’t working. Just ditch the white socks, please. The only person who ever made them work was Michael Jackson and you are many things, John Cena, but the King of Pop you are not. She looks adorable. It’s Goth Twee, but it works next to his cosplay.

These aren’t bad choices, but the presentation is half-assed. The tie is the wrong width for that collar.

Samuel L. Jackson

He looks surprisingly cuddly, which is not a word one tends to associate with him. The pants are puddling a bit too much, but that’s the only quibble we have. This is appealingly well coordinated.

She looks pretty great in this. She should’ve given that top a yank before she stepped out, but that’s the only quibble we have here. We’re not sure the belt is needed, but we’re grateful to her for not wearing it over her bare skin, which is a thing that annoys us.
