Hate the textile, which should not be used to make a gown.
Angela Bassett in Schiaparelli
It’s dramatic, but we don’t love that tomato-y red for her.
Charles Melton in Giorgio Armani
As we noted before, he’s not trying too hard, but he knows he doesn’t have to.
Chloë Grace Moretz in Louis Vuitton
It’s a beautiful color and a simple design that really works for her. We think it’s leather, which makes it all the more impressive. Can’t believe how well she’s working that belt.
Colman Domingo in Louis Vuitton
Delicious.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph in Elisabetta Franchi
It’s the sort of high-end glam we were hoping to see come her way and she looks pretty great in it, but that stiff bodice doesn’t help her. She needs a bust fitted to her.
Danai Gurira in Elie Saab Couture
Love. The color sings and the whole look is incredibly eye-catching. We love the… we’ll call them arm-roses, because “sleeves” doesn’t quite cover it.
Demi Moore in Tamara Ralph Couture
That’s entirely too much boob-rose, Demi.
Gemma Chan in Louis Vuitton
She’s making those gimmicky cutouts and fringe look elegant. We are compelled to bow down.
Greta Gerwig in Chanel
We want to like this, if only because it’s a floral rendered entirely in gray and black, but the embellishments up near the top really muddy the design.
Julia Garner in 3.1 Phillip Lim
LOVE that retro hair! Hate that lemon yellow color on her. The brooches are interesting but they feel a little random and the bodice looks too flimsy to support them.
Julianne Moore in Valentino
The design is basic, but the color is fantastic on her. She tends to avoid wearing it and we can understand why, because every redhead is implored to wear green from the minute they start making their own style choices. Not sure that lip color works.
Maggie Gyllenhaal in Lanvin
If the sleeves weren’t so long she might have pulled off this somewhat minimalist design, but they tend to make it all look very droopy. Love the earrings.
Michaela Jaé Rodriguez in Atelier Versace
It’s Versace, so you’ve got to expect a certain level of flash and sexy. We don’t mind the design, but the bust is way too tight on her.
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton
A surprisingly dramatic choice for Princess Twee-As-Fuck. We’d have kept all that drama up near the collar and edited out all the pointy bits in the rest of the dress.
Oprah Winfrey in Dolce & Gabbana
Oprah Winfrey is here to remind you that she is the executive producer of THE COLOR PURPLE, opening in theaters later this month. The branding is on point and she looks great, but the high collar and padded shoulders aren’t great for her and there’s too much pulling across the middle.
Salma Hayek in Gucci
She looks amazing. The seaming and the impeccable fit are what keep this from being a dull white dress. The bag and rings look great, but we feel like she could’ve used one more piece of jewelry somewhere.
Sandra Oh in Louis Vuitton
Can’t argue with that. Love the emeralds.
Saoirse Ronan in Louis Vuitton
That top is genuinely interesting, but that skirt does nothing for it.
Stephanie Hsu in Giambattista Valli Couture
This is really pretty and unexpected. If you got rid of the waist bow, it’d be perfect.
Taraji P. Henson in Zuhair Murad
Just in case you needed reminding that Taraji is starring in THE COLOR PURPLE, opening in theaters everywhere this month. This is gorgeous. It’s hard to make that sort of fabric twist look unobtrusive and elegant.
Zoë Kravitz in Saint Laurent
We’d have liked a more subtle seam if you’re going to run it down the center, but that’s our only quibble love that brown on her.
