We said last year that we were likely to be cutting back on our coverage of the former Cathy Cambridge unless she stepped out in a gown or some other form of particularly royal fashion, but her elevation to Princess of Wales has turned pretty much any event where she wears a dress into another royal drag show. Considering how many re-wears she’s cycling through, it’s not so much a case of her stepping up her style as it is her duties requiring more dressy approaches. That title comes with a lineage and a set of responsibilities that are pretty much forcing her to keep up appearances. Today, she arrived at the Young V&A museum as the royal patron of the Victoria & Albert Museum, ahead of its grand opening.
It’s a plainly pretty dress in the retro style she’s been working more and more lately. We don’t think the color suits her all that well – she’s better off in bold colors over pastels – and we hate the belt, which looks flimsy. We don’t really like the look at all from a style perspective, but it’s perfect for a day of chatting with children in front of cameras. In other words, it looks a little like something a schoolteacher in a children’s book would wear. We don’t mention this often enough because it easily gets repetitive, but the Princess is in desperate need of a hair rethink. Her quest to emulate her grandmother-in-law’s royal style seems to extend to Her Majesty’s preference for keeping the same hairstyle for fifty years.
