For her latest coronation-themed appearance, Princess Cathy returned to an old favorite and turned the royal drag dials up to eleven for a good old-fashioned Buckingham Palace garden party.
It’s royal to an almost ridiculous extent. If the costume designer for The Crown had to dress the actors for a garden party scene, she’d look at this and go “Mmm. Probably a bit of a cliche.” Joking aside, this is Cathy’s take on royal fashion in a nutshell. She strives to be exceedingly appropriate in all situations, to the point where she’ll wear the absolute quintessential garden party ensemble to a garden party. There is a borderline costume-y approach at work here, but like her insistence on dressing her family in matching colors (or in sticking with a strict Union Jack color theme for this week), it’s quite deliberate. It should be noted that she originally wore this to Royal Ascot in 2019; another occasion/situation in which a look like this simply couldn’t be more on point.
